Re: First race of this year...

Don't sell us Methusilas short!  I'm almost 62 and run only slightly faster than you do.  Like my faster friends tell me...at least we are out there doing it.  There are many people in the over 50 crowd whose only run is into the convience store for a snack or a pack of cigarettes.  The good news for us is that even at my slower speed I'm moving up in the standings because there are less 60 to 65s in the race  :^0.  Make sure you take the time to enjoy that race.  Don't let those young'uns start you out on a pace that is too fast.  My bet is there'll be another 5K in your future.  Have fun and let us know how it goes.

Plan your run and then run your plan.

Re: First race of this year...

I have to laugh about the age thing.  You "old *****" are REALLY fast. The race I was in Saturday had a 60+ year old gentleman take 36th (2 ahead of me) in the half marathon with a time of 1:44:55.  Ain't nothin' slow about that!!!!!

Re: First race of this year...

You're right about that.  Ran a very hilly 30K in March.  I averaged 11+ min. miles and won my age group because I was the only 60 - 65 female  ;).  However the 70+ year old female winner beat me by 30 min.!  Couldn't do that time if my pants were on fire HA.  Guess if you're still running at our age, you've got to enjoy it no matter how fast or slow.

Plan your run and then run your plan.
