TIME4CHANGE

Ok, so everyone seems to be in agreement that we need to keep our group together after we all finish the C25K.  At least CW and I are going to continue on with the Gateway to 8K (GW28K).  Anyone who wishes to join us, please feel free.  Those of you who are finishing up your last several weeks of the C25K keep up the hard work...you are almost there!  I may not create a new thread each week from here on out, so lets just see how this goes.  Everyone has come SOOO far.  Well done!

Re: TIME4CHANGE

Hey Will, can u send me a link to Gateway to 8k? I think I may have found it the other night, but did not see much info on it. I know that after I finish c25k I want to practice my time & distance and maybe run a few 5k's before I move on, not really sure yet. What are others thinking about doing? I know Will & CW plan to do the Gateway, but any other ideas? I do think even if we do a few diff things we can still be a group. I am just curious on what others are going to do, cause to tell you the truth all I have thought about is just getting thru c25k!!!

Re: TIME4CHANGE

First, congrats to CW and Dave! GREAT JOB!!!

I did Week 8, Day 3 tonight after being a slug all day and all day yesterday.  Just didn't feel much like running, but the run itself went surprisingly well, and I felt much better afterward.  What feels best is that I knew it was a run day, so I just ran it.  I didn't make excuses or think about putting it off.  I can't say I'm to the point where this is a mindless routine yet, but it's definitely closer than ever.

I have thought I'd like to do Gateway to 8K afterward.  My question for others who are doing it; are you going to follow it with the walking breaks as it is, or will you run longer since you're used to doing that?  I wasn't sure how I wanted to handle that and would like to know what others are doing.

Penguins game tomorrow night, so the only exercise I'll be getting is the walk to and from the arena!  Hopefully I'll be watching a win!

Re: TIME4CHANGE

Hey Cindy, after going to the website & talking to Will on facebook I may do it/ It would be cool if you could wait a week & we could start together, what do u think? Or are you all geared up to start it right away?

Re: TIME4CHANGE

Will - CONGRATS CONGRATS GONGRATS GRADUATE! Doesn't it feel awesome! Looking forward to doing G28K with you!  I have decided that I'm going to run the G28K intervals twice a week and run whatever the "One Hour Runner" time is for the third day that week.  I think that will be a nice progression.  I am hoping to start tomorrow with the intervals.  I have decided that I will probably never run more than three days a week (at least not in the foreseeable future).  I'm doing so well with no knee problems, no shin problems, etc. that I don't want to  tempt fate!     I'll cross train another 2-3 days a week.  Can't wait for Hilo.  It will probably be raining (seems like it's always raining in Hilo) . . .

Dave - awesome time on the 5k!  Sounds like you are a natural!  And to think you're not even done with the program yet.  That is really amazing - under 30 minutes on your first one!  Wow!

Cindy - good luck on week 9!  By the end of the week you will be holding your "diploma"!

Everyone have a great week - I'm in class all day (boring).

P.S.  Carol and Will I know you guys ate good this weekend from the pics  you posted on facebook!

Re: TIME4CHANGE

I am still trying to decide on what I want to do when I finish C25K.  I had thought about doing one of the programs that help with speed for the 5K so I could hang with my 11 year old who is in the 24 minute range.  Then I thought, if I did the GW28K, that might help with my speed in the 5k as I build endurance to go further, I would think that I could do the 5k faster.  The thing I like about the GW28K is that it would move me along to getting closer to a 10k.

So for now I don't know what I am going to do, I should finish week 8 on Tuesday and then start on week 9.  That gives me about a week and a half to check out what all of you are doing and hear how things are going for you.

Thanks, for all of the positive words on my 5k.  Here is the link for the results page:

http://gulfcoastrunningclub.org/results/data_5K.php?race=fat&yr=2009

and there I am in 64th place.  I was hoping there would have been a few more people so I could have been in the top half.  However, the same club had a race the day before so I am sure that cut into the numbers for this one.  I know it is strange but my 11 year old started this thing whenever he races, he always wants to be a FCF (First Column Finisher), the club always posts their results in the same format and he gets excited when he sees that he was in the top half of the field and that he beat adults.

Re: TIME4CHANGE

HI!!!! I started Week 8 Day 1 with a bang!!! I did 30 min instead of 28!! I was trying to reach the end of a street & a song & I did it!!! I did 2.67 miles according to my pedometer/mile thingie, not sure how accurate it is, but I know I ran a little faster & longer today! I kicked butt, at least in my head I did!!! Not to say the whole run was hard, it always is, ALWAYS!!! But at least I made it & feel good now!!!! My goal when I run is to make each goal & maybe exceed it and think in my head "make it to the end then you can rest!!!". My Husband stopped by the house (he is a DM for a Pizza wholesale co & drives all day) & I was still outside talking to a neighbor so I ran up to him and yelled "I kicked butt"!!!! He has never actually seen me run, just seen me after a few times.

Dave, I am thinking about doing the g28k too, but my goal will be to improve my time for 5k's and get a few 5ks under my belt. But I imagine it would help and I seem to do well with some kind of program to follow. I think it will be so cool to run with your wife & son. Lucky you!!! I am off to look at your link.

Re: TIME4CHANGE

Carole,

Way to go on your run.  It is always good to go beyond what you set out to do.  2.67 miles in 30 minutes is great.  Plus it was great that you were able to see your husband while you were still pumped about it.  My wife is on week 5, she did W5D1 last night.  She has done all of her runs on the treadmill so far, so I try to keep the boys out of her hair while she is on the treadmill.  I am so proud of her, she is not as excited about the program as I am, but she keeps on going and each time when she finishes a run she is pumped.  I think I enjoy being able to share her accomplishments more than I enjoy the feeling I have after my runs.  As far as my son, he is just a natural.  He doesn't really train for running.  His soccer coach runs the team a lot, and then it is nothing for him to play 4 entire games in a weekend without being pulled off of the field.  As a matter of fact, it looks like probably about 5 or 6 of the boys from the team are doing the run in mid-June.  None of them really train for it, they are just really fit and active 11 year olds.  A few of them have already done some 5k's and one of them has done several with my son and they usually finish within seconds of each other.

Re: TIME4CHANGE

Thanks Dave, it was a good run! I run outside. When I worked at the Y I had a free membership & on my off time I would walk on the treadmill, but I was scared I would fall off it if I tried to run!!! It's hard to imagine I was a dancer when I was younger, cause I can be kinda klutzy!!! Plus, when I run outside I get to look at so many things, people, animals. I have a few People I see alot & they wave, It's nice. There was a nice breeze today, I enjoyed that. I am hoping that when I run my 5k that it will excite my 10 yr old daughter & maybe she may want to start running with me.

Re: TIME4CHANGE

Will, sorry to hear that you are hurting.  I am the same way about my knee.  It seems like I am taking Motrin out of habit now.  I have made up my mind to see how bad the pain will be if I stop taking Motrin.

Re: TIME4CHANGE

I made a small goof!! While I was on my 5 min brisk walk I was fiddling with my mp3 player trying to find a song and adjust the volume. When I got to the point that I was to start running I usually reset my pedeter/milage thingie & then when I finish my run I pull it off and hold it face up to stop the counter & then I record my miles for just the running part when I get home. So I did not run the whole 2.69 miles, part of that was my walk before I ran, but it was a not real fast walk since I was more concerned with making the stupid mp3 work right!!! I had to admit that!!! I figured it out a little while ago while I was telling my daughter how good my run was!!! It was still a good run & I know I did more than 2 miles just from the amout of ground I covered!
