All stars selections '09

I know this is not suppposed talked about until June 15th. But, wait and you'll understand.
Hypothetically, lol, I have an 11y/o, who is played this year as an 11 y/o right!? Now all-stars are among us. To make this article not so long, I'll just put it point-blank. The president of our league, on his own, without the board of directors being involved, stated that my hypothetical son will be pulled up to the 12 y/o all star team, and if he doesn't, or mainly my point his parents don't want him to, then he will not play at all.
I don't care what little league baseball directors think, and I don't exactly know what the rule is, but I have to believe that the parents should have the ultimate say!
With that said, there is no danger with him playing, he's the top 4 kid, no doubt of all the 11's, and 12's. There's no doubt in my mind that he can play, and can compete as well as any. We have been through that playing up ****, for the first 3 years in select, and it didn't work out for his confidence. This is our main reason, adn his is he's been playing with the 11's all season.
Shouldn't he be allowed to play his own age group? Are they allowed to tell us that if he doesn't play 12's he won't play at all? That just is not what little league baseball should be about..............
Frustrated!
From a club ball perspective he is playing within his age group. For example Pony Baseball has a Bronco Division which is 12U which includes 11's & 12's. You and your son should consider it an honor that your son has been selected to represent his community. If the team should not advance far, it could give your son the experience and preparation to go further next year.
We absolutely agree that it is an honor. We all know he is talented. It comes from all the hard work in the backyard and at the expense of my shoulder. I know you know what I'm talking about.....lol He deserves it if work ethic has anything to do with it. He lives, eats, and breathes baseball. He's been on every all star team since he was old enough. There's alot more to it like, the ex-pres's kid is 12 and this is his last year. So, he's making any move he can, fair or not, to give his kid one last chance. At the expense of my kid. I take that very personal. He doesn't care about the 11's. There's a better chance the 11's could go to state and win, than the 12's going to the LLWS. It's not about THE kids to him, it's about HIS kid. Oh, did I mention he's coaching the 12's now. Hmmmm, just feels and smells like there's something underhanded going on, which is the reason I wanted to read the rule about picking all stars. My son has been playing for the same coach for years, select and league. Why punish HIM by making HIM play up even if he doesn't want too. I guess the biggest beef I have is, they gave us the ultimatum, he plays for the 12's or he doesn't play at all. Honestly how would you feel? That's wrong no matter how you look at it. They tried to pass all this without the board/parents knowing about it. I guess they thought it would fly. Once we got wind of it, there was 2 emergency board meetings called. I think we have it worked out now. At least it's being voted on from unbiast parents on the board from a list each coach has made and turned in. I just want to know where to find, or who to talk to about the actual rule for picking all stars. They keep saying it's changed this year, stating they have to make the best 12 y/o team they can first, even if it means playing up some 11 y/os without having to have the parents consent, even if there are enough 12 y/o, nixing them if you will for an 11 y/o that's better. You know? Just doesn't sound right. I don't think little league is set up that way. The ex pres and the new pres are buddies too. I know it sounds like whining, but noone has the right to tell my kid where he's going to play! Unless he get a full ride to UT or something......lol
Thanks.....Dubby
P.S. We'll find out tomorrow what team he ends up on, I'll keep ya posted if you like. You never know when something like this will happen in your neck of the woods. Apparantly presidents get greedy when it's there kids last year....
Oh, I did want to mention also that one of the unbiast parents that is picking the 11 and 12 y/o teams does agree with my wife and I. It should be at the parents discretion to play up or not. And, she's the one that kept the concession stand running so smoothly for the last 2 years. If you've been in baseball for anytime at all, you know what a pain that is. Opening and closing, going to sams, counting money, getting people to run it when it's there turn....etc...
Anyway, let you know soon. Thanks for listening
What "division" did he play in during the Regular Season?
Sounds like he played Majors, in which case I assume the league is looking for him to play on the 11-12 (Majors) Tournament Team. How is an 11 year old playing on the 11-12 team "playing up"? He played majors all season and he is up for selection on the major tournament team, personally I don't see that as playing up.
Are you saying you would rather have him on the 10-11 Tournament Team rather than the 11-12 Tournament Team but the league (President) says if he does not play on the 11-12 team he will not be allowed to play on the 10-11 Team?
One last thing - there is "No Rule" that governs how a league picks its Tournament Teams. It's up to the local BOD and it should be described in your Local Rules BEFORE the season starts (so everyone knows ahead of time how it will be done)! That said, many/most leagues put their best players on the 11-12 (Major) Team and then work down from there.
We don't play Little League we play Pony. We send two teams to All Stars, with the A team being predominately 12's and the B teams being mostly 11's. The problem is the B teams face the A teams in all stars. So if you have a weak B team they are going to play three and go home. So we prefer that he plays "up" with the 12's.
He played in the National League which is comprised of 11-12 y/o's. But were sending a 9-10 y/o, an 11 y/o, and a 12 y/o all star team. My son is 11. I want him to play on the 11 y/o all star team. They want him on the 12 y/o all star team, that is what I mean by playing up. It's about them telling the parents, whoever they are, they have no say at all.
In LL there is a 9-10 Tournament and a 10-11 Tournament both of which stop at State Level.
The 11-12 Tournament (Majors) goes all the way to Williamsport.
So, that being the case, MOST leagues put their best 11-12 players on the 11-12 Team. To me having an 11 year old on the 11-12 team is not playing up. Having an 11 year old who "should" be on the 11-12 team playing on the 10-11 team by "parent request" is playing down.
Around here, leagues pick "the best players" for the 11-12 team, if a selected player does NOT want to play on the 11-12 then he is not allowed to play on the 10-11 team. Same thing for a 10 year old, if he's picked for the 10-11 and says NO then he can't play 9-10.
Is that right - maybe/maybe not, but it is the way it is.
Ok, I'm not explaining it good enough I guess. Sorry!
Here we have a 9-10 y/o all star team. We also have an 11 y/o all star team. We also have a 12 y/o all star team. My son is 11. The powers that be are only trying to pad their 12 y/o team because the President and the ex president are buds. The ex pres's son is 12 and this is his last chance at a shot for Williamsport. My son has to play with the 12 y/o's during the season, because as you say it is comprised of 11's and 12's called the National League here, I think in the book it is the "Majors" not sure. That is NOT the case with All-Stars. We have an 11 y/o team, filled with only 11 y/o's who are very, very good, who have a lot better chance of going to state, than the 12's have going to Williamsport. With that said, I'm not arguing about what kids should go where. I'm arguing about the president, without the BOD's, cannot say we're pulling your kid up whether you like it or not.
Next year he will be playing as a 12 y/o as will all the other good 11 y/o's. Who know's......Williamsport?
+So, that being the case,
MOST leagues put their best 11-12 players on the 11-12 Team. To me
having an 11 year old on the 11-12 team is not playing up. Having an 11
year old who "should" be on the 11-12 team playing on the 10-11 team by
"parent request" is playing down.+
As per this statement, we don't have an 11-12 y/o all star team.......SEE FIRST SENTENCE
Thanks for trying to clarify it for me, but the president here is honestly the Dumbest person I have ever met. Literally. Dumb! He's only doing what the ex pres tells him to, whether fair or not. Had it not been for the BOD's finding out and putting a stop to it, it would have been really bad. Larry Brown, who is the District 3 president was brought into it all. It was pretty bad. We almost lost all rights to all stars, and possible our "not going to say the name" league.....
