I have a ful time desk job and a 16 month old son.  I am running in the mornings because once he gets up it is hard to get out of the house. My husband is rolling me out of bed at 5 am

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

WOW!  Everyone is doing so great!  I finished  Week 1 this morning.  It's really hot and humid here today, so I decided to get up early and get it out of the way.  I know myself too well, and most likely would have talked myself out of doing it tonight in this heat.   In the past, I was always an early morning exerciser, but have found that since school has been out, I've been sleeping later and later each day.  I forgot how much better I feel throughout the day when I get up early and get moving.  So, I've decided that along with Week 2, my other goal is to get up earlier than everyone else and workout or run.

To answer a couple of the other questions, I live in Illinois, and for the past 14 years, have been a stay-at-home mom.  My husband and I have been married for 12 years, and we have 3 children.  Just this year, I went to work as a substitute teacher, and absolutely loved it.  So, that's my plan for at least another couple of years.

Keep up the good work everyone!!!  I am truly inspired everytime I read these posts.

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

Yes, after I downloaded the mp4 files, I figured that out. It is even charged and has Week bookmarked so I don't have to scroll thru all the audiobooks. My ipod shuffle is on the way, as the Zen's earbuds won't stay in place. I even got the hook type. I have decided my ears are shaped funny-earbuds hurt. Anyway, I have running clothes, water bottle, heart rate monitor. (I am afraid I will pass out running in 90 degrees, as I take a beta blocker., but I have made it so far.) I plan to start tonight w/C25K. CANNOT get up early..

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

I am a web and database specialist at the U. of Illinois. My wife works here as well (in a different college).

I was supposed to merge into the C25k plan yesterday at the week 4 day 2 point, but I didn't get up in time yesterday morning, then the Sox were beating the Cubs yesterday afternoon so I went to a bar on campus and had a few beers and watched the rest of the game, so I didn't run last night.  And this morning a terrible storm is going through the area so I missed it today too.  Oh well.  The general consensus is for me to take a day off between runs, so I got a day+ this time.  Hopefully tonight.  Unless, that is, the fourth or fifth inning rolls around and the Sox are winning again this afternoon...

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

Well last night I completed d2/w3. I was really trying hard not to go. My husband was late getting home from work so I could not go until 8:45. It was muggy and dark. I am not a big fan of being hot and sweaty, but I made myself get out there. I go jogging with my jogging partner, Shelby a 4 year old border collie mix. She keeps me honest, I think...she has the lets go attitude. I think some nights if it wasn't for her I would not go. Yesterday was harder for me... I have been getting a lot of tightness in my right leg. I will have to try and stretch more.

If I think I can, I will......

Keep up the good work everyone....

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone is having a good week and their training is going well.  I am new to running/walking.  I started walking a little over a week ago and decided to start the c25k program today.  My run went fairly well today but I am a former heavy smoker and all I can say is WOW I am really out of shape and it can only get better from here.  I plan on sticking to my 4 mile walk on my off days to keep me active.  I plan to run a 5k in September and together WE CAN ALL do this!!!!

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

So, should we come up with a name for our group so that we can start a new post every week?  Eventually, this thread is going to disappear onto page 2.  Is almost everyone here doing the couch to 5k program?  We could be the No More Couch Potato Runners, or something like that...

I haven't done my W1D2 run yet.  Need to do that after dinner tonight.

How many here are running on a treadmill?  Do you always run on the treadmill, or only in inclement weather?

Have a great day, everyone!

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

As promised, I finally did my first C25k workout this morning, starting at W4D2.  I don't wonder if I should go back and start at week 3 (someone in another thread said I should be starting at week 6--I'm not that gung-ho...).

I went okay. I cut both the 1/2-mile parts a smidge short, but I'll maybe chalk that up to not having run since Monday.  I don't know.  I'll take it easy tomorrow (maybe just walk the dog) and try W4D3 on Sunday and see how it goes. At worst I'll just start week 4 over on Tuesday.

I hope everyone else's training is going well, and hope wherever you are that it is less hot and muggy than it is here in the midwest. Yuck.

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

I run in my subdivision.   The week 1 walk/run takes me about 2 1/4 - 2 1/2 miles.  Including warm-up and cool down walking.

W1D3 finished. Felt great. Going a greater distance every day. Noticed that when my form was breaking down my knee would tell me! Not pain, just a gentle reminder to keep the toes point forward and roll from heel to toe. The Running Store Shoe recommendation I believe was priceless. Right glute was a little tight after the week, but nothing beyond minor aches from getting the rust out.

I can't believe how I am looking forward to the workouts. I have to remind myself to stick to the program and not over-do it.

Now, two days of rest. Monday will be my first workout away from home. I am looking forward to it.

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

Hi everyone, I'd like to join in if possible.  I'm not following the c25k program, but I am following another 8-week program for beginner runners of which  I just finished  WK5D3 (I run 5 times per week with this program).

When I started I couldn't even run 30 seconds without thinking I was going to die, but now I am on 5 minute intervals with a 2 minute recover walk between and I am loving it.  I do 5k in 40 minutes which includes a 10 minute warmup walk, I do it outside never on a treadmill, I am fortunate to have fantastic bike/running paths along the river near my home.  I use an app called RunKeeper for my iPhone that tracks my runs and I find it so motivating, I never had any desire to run before starting this journey, and now I love it.

I am planning to run a "3 miler" in August to challenge myself, although it is on a mountain so I need to check the trail out and run it myself first.  I am registered for  a 5k in September as part of the Montreal marathon (I walked the 10k last year and that is when I decided that in 2009 I would run across that finish line not walk), and I am considering running a 10k in October of this year in Toronto.

Oh yeah, I am a female software developer who sits on my butt all day and since I have my own consulting company as well as my full-time job, I sit on my butt most nights too, so running is my lifeline.

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

Hello everyone.  I have been running since March 09.  Right now I am running 11:45 -12 minute miles and constantly trying to improve my speed and endurance.  I am running a 5K this coming Sunday June 21st at Oletta Park in North Miami Beach, anyone signed up? This will be my first 5K so I will let you know how I did.  My goal this year is to complete half marathon in November which will be in Fort Lauderdale.  I have not signed up yet but I have until August to register.  All I can say since I started running is that I LOVE IT.  Running has made me more active, positive, and confident.  I would love to join your running group. Please let me know time and place to meet.  I am a female, just turned 29 and originally born in Venezuela.  I can't wait to meet you all.

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

Hello everyone!  I want to join your group. I'm doing the c25k program. I stalled on week seven so I plan on starting at week 5 Monday. Believe it or not I have a 5k tomorrow night (candlelight run).  I know that I will be able to run/walk it. And that's ok for now. I have been suffering with a bad knee and now the heat and humidity have settled in. It will be a fight for my life to exercise through the summer. Hopefully we can all endure!

Brpssm:  what is the name of your program?  My doctor wants me to exercise 5 days a week.  If it's an ease into kinds thing I would be interested.
