Questions re: Disney half and logistics

Hi. I've registered for the half marathon at Disney and am looking into packages for hotels at Disney World. I also have three relatives I could stay with the entire weekend which is the choice my hubby would by far prefer. I don't care about the money but if I can save it and not be miserable.....I know it is more convenient to stay at Disney but what I'm hoping to find out is:

if it will make my first half experience miserable if I don't stay at Disney?

How far is the parking away from the start line if I have to drive myself?

Is it possible to get to the staging area early and relax before the race?

How many people run the race?

Anything else you think I should know.....would be great!

Well I've never run it, but I know there are 3000 entries just for goofy which is running both the half and the full so I'm guessing a lot and it's almost full. I live in Tampa, running the full and I'm staying over. Way too early for the wife to get up and be driving over to get there by 4am.

Re: Questions re: Disney half and logistics
Hi

I ran the full marathon at Disney this year. I would strongly suggest staying on property at least the night before the race. We stayed at the Beach Club and there were buses to the start. Of course, the bus came at 3:45 in the morning. UUUGGGHHH! I have no idea what parking would be like.

They want you at the staging area really early - traffic concerns etc. Not to mention that the darn thing started at 6:00 am. So you will have plenty of time to relax. Or if your me, freak out with anticipation! It was freezing this year so, if it's cold again, I would suggest throw-away layers and a large contractor garbage bag with a head hole cut in for warmth. I actually saw people with comforter huddled together for warmth..... It was great fun. GOOD LUCK!

p.s. at the end of the marathon they had a big tent with massages. You need to have cash to pay for it so bring a $20 in your sock!

I did the full last year and we stayed off site. We drove there early and did not have any problems with traffic. Parking is at the finish and it is easy to leave after the race. I would do it again. Have fun.
