First Day of C25K June 27th

I just started my fist day of C25K. Wondering if anyone else recently started or starting soon. Felt like I was running on noodles at the end. But luckly for me that were still under cooked enough to finish.

I have not done any running since high school. Played soccer for about 8 years but blew my knew out about 1 1/2 years ago and just starting back. I really want to start running. First day went ok, heat was a killer even early morning.

Good for you!

I'm starting it this week!  I started with walking 30 minutes last week.  I haven't run in over ten years so I'm thinking I will need to start the program slow, but looking forward to it!

Re: First Day of C25K June 27th

I'm so glad you posted. I did my first day of C25K this evening.

It went surprisingly well, though I must admit my shins were burning by the end. If we keep this thread (or maybe group) going, which I hope we do, you will surely hear me complain about my shins on a fairly regular basis. They are my long-standing albatross as a result of an ill-fated attempt to go for a run on concrete while wearing Keds(!) many years ago.

Fortunately for me, the heat wasn't too bad up here. I live in northern Minnesota and the summer weather is usually quite cool.

Re: First Day of C25K June 27th

Hi everyone-

I'm starting the C25K program again tomorrow.  I got to week 2 last time I tried but I had a non running related injury so had to just walk for a while.  Some questions I had from the last time I was doing this ...I like to do it on a treadmill because I feel funny running in public still.  What's a good pace to do the brisk walking and the jogging at while on the treatmill?  I was walking at 3.5 and jogging at 5.5, but I don't want to be making it to easy on myself.  Also, I know it says to do it only 3 days a week, would I be hurting my progress if I was to do this 5 days a week, Monday through Friday?   I'm not a runner, nor have I ever been one, but I really want to be so that's why I want to make sure I'm doing this right! Thanks!

Re: First Day of C25K June 27th

I'm on Week 2 Day 2.  I started with a friend at the beginning of June, just walking initially and then we found C25K :P  We have a 5k on August 1 that should be a lot of fun.  We're running on the same course we'll run the 5k on, which will be nice.  I went out today with the intent of doing Day 1 again just to prove I could, and somehow buggered up on my iPhone so it paused after the first 30 seconds. I had my dog with me so between futzing with the iphone and futzing with him, I gave up and just walked.  I love the way I feel after a run.  Even tho we're using the same course to do this program, the half hour goes quick and we just walk the rest of the way.

I am bummed though because I'm not seeing any weight loss at all..that's kinda upsetting because I would really like to lose a good 40 pounds to fit into some of my favorite clothes...  sigh

I am really looking foward to start C25K tomorrow June 29th!  I am going to have to get up early so that it isn't to hot out!  Gotta love Florida! I wish I had found this program sooner.  I figure now that I am officially in my 30s it is high time i learn to become a runner.  I have never been very athletic.  I will post tomorrow how I do.

I'm ready! I did w1d1 today and feel good right now. My shins were killing me during the run, though.  I'm psyched to keep going, so thanks for the support.

Re: First Day of C25K June 27th

hi everyone -

so nice to "see" you all here!

mlpq - I'm not sure about the treadmill b/c I don't use one... sorry!

My husband and I did week 1 day 1 today, although modified because I'm so out of shape!  I did 45 seconds of running with more walking in between.  60 seconds sounds so short but when you're a serious couch potato wow does it feel long!   It was a little hard but I felt so great to be doing it!  Looking forward to day 2.

Is anyone doing any exercising the off days?  I'm wondering what would be best.  I think I would like to do some strength training those days but not sure if I should work out my legs or if they will need to rest?

Re: First Day of C25K June 27th

KaraJoy ~Congratulations on finishing w1d1!!

Here's my 'workout' plan:

3 days/week (Wednesday,Friday, Sunday) - c25k, 400 crunches (variations of crunches including regular, oblique, twist, reverse, etc...)

3 days/week (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday) - Weight training upper and lower body (30 minutes), 400 crunches

I also push mow once a week for 2 hours, go swimming 3-4 times a week with the kids (and inbetween catching them off the dive and swimming all around with them I try to get in some laps) and take a few walks with the kids and husband (each walk is 2 miles and I'm either pushing a double stroller or pulling a wagon... lol).

maggieq ~Great job on doing w1d1!!

goalgazer ~ I'm very happy to have this group and know that there are others just starting this program, like me. Let us know how today goes!

Runner Regina ~ Good luck today!!!

flyshopgirl ~ How exciting about the 5K in August.

mlpq ~ I am also having to use a treadmill.  I do this program on days my husband has to go to work (early) and with 4 kids at home I can't leave... lol.  I am looking forward to being able to start running some outside.  On the treadmill I am walking at 3.5 and jogging at 5.5, like you.  I figure I will increase it as I feel like it.

Today is my "day off" from working out (and my husbands day off from work!  YAY).  We are planning on going for a walk as a family this evening once we get home from gymnstics (3 older kids all go... my oldest, who is 6, is in pre-team).  It will be a 2 mile walk with one of us pushing a double stroller and the other pulling a wagon... lol!!  We love our walks though, so it works (even though we do get some funny looks).

I hope you all have a great day!!  Keep up the great work!!!

Re: First Day of C25K June 27th

I started on the 22nd... so I've finished week one and will start week two tomorrow. I did an extra day of week one yesterday and I'm not even sore today... yay! That is a nice surprise! There is a local 5K in September that I'm aiming for. Hoping to lose about 20 pounds and easily run the 3 miles by then.

I got a book from the library that has been great motivation! Runner's World Complete Book of Beginning Running by Amby Burfoot

Erin, my kids are very close in age to yours... mine are 7, 5, 3 and 13 months.  Oh, and we homeschool too!

Re: First Day of C25K June 27th

Hi- I am starting this program as a newbie too.  I have done 4 days already.  I actually have already run a 5K in May- but I am hoping this training will improve my time and abilities for one that I have coming up at the end of August.

I just discovered the community button and I think this is great!

Re: First Day of C25K June 27th

4babes ~ Wow, we have a lot in common!!  The 5K in September sounds like a great goal.  I need to try and find something like that around here for around then too.  I know there is one on August 15th, I'm just worried that I won't be ready by then.

Hi Julie! That's great that you have already ran in a 5K!  Good luck training for the next one in August.

Change of plans... we just got back from our walk... 3.2 miles.  I should have worn my shoes... not flip flops.  LOL!  I always forget that when we go for a walk as a family though.
