Re: Fall Marathon Trainers Thread 6/18/06
A decent week for me... Still trying to get my mileage up. This week I had planned on 70ish, but only ended up with 61 miles.

Monday: 6 miles (6:21)
Tuesday: 9 miles w/ 4 x 1700ish on trail loop avg. split was 5:37 per 1700
Wednesday: 6 miles (6:57)
Thursday: 12 miles progression (6:20). Last 5 miles were under 6 minute pace
Friday: 6 miles (6:48)
Saturday: 10 miles (6:45). Planned on doing a tempo run in this workout, but the heat was too unbearable.
Sunday: 12 miles (6:42) Planned 16, but the heat and my laziness cut it short.

Week Total: 61 miles (6:37)

Re: Fall Marathon Trainers Thread 6/18/06
Whoohoo! The newbie made the list at the start!!!

ALSO: Put me on "the list" for Chicago 10/22 with a goal of 3:20 (that's my backup BQ Marathon!)

Was a decent week (#6 of 20) and I feel good.

Monday - Total 6 miles: 1.8 mile warmup (because that's how far it is to THE HILL); 12 * 200m hill repeats (0:50 up, 2:00 down and off the line again); 1.8 mile cooldown
Tuesday - 6 miles, 7:27 pace
Wednesday - 8 miles, 7:38 pace
Thursday - 4 Miles, 8:00 pace
Friday - off
Saturday (wasn't a weekend for an LSD) - Total 9 miles: 1.5 mile warmup; 4 miles at 6:35 pace; 2 miles at 7:11 pace; 1.5 mile cooldown.

Weekly total: only 33.5 miles since this weekend was recovery from last weekend's LSD of 15 miles and in prep for next weekend's LSD of 17 miles.

Re: Fall Marathon Trainers Thread 6/18/06
M: Off
T: 6.6K Easy (5:39/K)
W: 16.6K Biking Easy
R: 5.79K Easy run at lunch (5:30/K)
F: 10.4K Easy (5:18/K)
S: 8K Easy Treadmill (6:00/K) + Weights. I love the gym, but treadmill is a terrible machine. The effort on the treadmill seems so much higher than running outside.
Su: 15.4K Easy (5:22/K)

Total: 38.2K + 16.6K Running

Second week of training after the Stockholm marathon. Feeling pretty much back to normal now. I was feeling really good on Friday and had trouble taking it slow, but I can't complain about that.

Overall I'm pleased with how the recovery is going. I plan on increasing to 50K or so next week, all easy miles.

Re: Fall Marathon Trainers Thread 6/18/06
I am amazed with some of the paces (like AndyHass) that people are running in marathon training! AND, Some of the distances being covered (joplus, beatfreq, and RobertWildes) are equally impressive. Well done to all! If it's any sign of things to come I think there's gonna be quite a few PR's and BQ's in the group.

I've been running all of my runs at maffetone pace. I'm sure that some of you have your opinions, good/bad, about that. This week I will be running a 5k. I was holding out hope for breaking the 20 minute mark. My old PR in college, 10 years ago, was 22 on very little training. I ran two mile repeats at 6:32 and 6:50 halfway through an 8 mile run this week. I think I'm gonna pace for 21 in the 5k now to be safe.

Like I said the rest of my running was slow, about 9-9:45/mile for a total of 37+ again. My long run is up a mile to 13. This coming week I will recover (and kind of taper for the 5k) and shoot for my first 40 mile week next week.

Re: Fall Marathon Trainers Thread 6/18/06
Please add me to the list.

I will be running the Charlotte Marathon. My goal is sub 3:10.

I will be using Daniels' Plan A with a max of 85. I have been doing an extended Phase 1 since the start of the year. Base building, I have averaged 65 MPW since the start of the year and want to average 80+ for June-July before starting Plan A in early August. Last 4 weeks were 82,72,100,76. My runs usually average in the 8:15-8:30 range. I just don't feel like running faster in the South Carolina heat

Re: Fall Marathon Trainers Thread 6/18/06
heya, southern man ... add me to the Columbus 10/15 ... it's not paid for yet but 95% sure I'll be there!!!

I strained my hamstring the the 11th and had to baby my leg all week .... but I got better and raced a 10K on sunday, so it's all good ... my milage last week was only 23 miles but I've been up in the 40-45 range for about a month and doing races every week or two since the beginning of may ...

I'm hoping to be in the high 30's - low 40's for this week since hammy is still a bit sore and I'm racing again this weekend ...

happy training all!

Re: Fall Marathon Trainers Thread 6/18/06
Easy week babying my right knee and hip and getting ready for Mt. Washington.

Monday 5.1 at 9:36
Tuesday Taught a yoga class then ran 6.2 at 9:14...HOT!
Friday: 6 at 9:27
Saturday: 7.6 up Mt. Washington 2:01:22

Fortunately this adventure didn't cause me any pain, other than irritating my already aggravated hip. I don't think I need to do this again, Felt great about 45 minutes after the end, but thoughts of the Bataan Death March were trooping through my head from mile 5 on.

Looking to get some miles in tomorrow before things heat up for the day. Might double up with an easy run in the evening with my running group.

Re: Fall Marathon Trainers Thread 6/18/06
I am gearing up for the Whistlestop in October. Hoping to BQ, which means a 3:40 for me.

This week I took it pretty easy as my ankle/achilles is still achy. Didn't help that I danced all night in sandals on Fri night. I just did 4.5 and it felt ok. I could feel it, but it didn't really hurt or slow me down.

I am doing Higdon's Intermediate II but with some modifications as I am doing track speed work sessions on Tuesdays and have found that means Wednesdays are rest days until this ankle is healed.

Good luck to you all and hope I can start logging the serious miles soon!

Re: Fall Marathon Trainers Thread 6/18/06
59 miles for week.

On vacation and ran lots of easy runs on foothills and mountains (lots of hills at 4500-5500 ft.). Longest run 13 miles. About 4-5 miles tempo or MP running total for week. One work-out was mowing dad's lawn (about 1 acre) running whole way (except quick grass dumps)-- that was pretty tough in heat.

Did a 5k Sat. in 17:34, 58 second PR for me without any specific 5k training. Very happy about that. Last 5k was last summer (I need to race more). Overall feeling well but need to start building up the distance of my long run to 15-16 miles.

Re: Fall Marathon Trainers Thread 6/18/06
Sign me up for Detroit 10/29. At this point I'm thinking 3:15 (BQ), but that might slide back a bit as I get further into training.

This week was a bit of an easy week, finished up with a 10K race.

This coming week I add a sixth day to the regular training and the milage starts into climbing.

Re: Fall Marathon Trainers Thread 6/18/06
3rd week of Pfitz's 18/55 mile plan for me, not quite up to speed yet, but getting in the main sessions and skipping on the extra recovery run. Mostly run on trails with a fair bit of ascent and descent, so times are relatively unimportant.

Mon 8 miles, 4 at HM intensity. Trail run warm up then hit the roads for the HM pace bit, but unfortunately the first 2 miles were straight into a heavy headwind, so pace was all over the place but clocked 31 minutes anyway.

Tue 10 miles trail, steady 90 mins

Wed 45 min hill run, 4 miles

Fri 13 miles trail, over 2000' of ascent, 2 hours
