2009 season

With the 2009 season just a couple months away, teams are prepping for pre-season practice. Lake Travis took home the Mega national title from FootballPower with St. Ignatious and St. Thomas Aquinas finishing 2 and 3. Going into 2009, who is the the preseaon No. 1 team? My top team is Aquinas FL, Cody Riggs and Lamarcus Joyner are two of d-backs in the nation, Id say Byrnes SC is a close 2 maybe even No. 1. Marcus Lattimore is one of the best runners in the country. Byrnes is always loaded. Lakeland FL will real good this year. So many good team out there. So whos No. 1?

Re: 2009 season

I will put in a vote for St. Thomas Aquinas in Florida. You know nobody will be throwing on them. Their cornerbacks are arguably the top two college prospects in the country at that position. They have several other seniors that will play Division I football, too, and they were nearly the top team in the country last year when all these studs were just juniors.

I can't imagine any team being better than Aquinas this season, but that's why they play the games.

Re: 2009 season

As much as I like Aquinas in Florida, I will stay with Katy from TX.  Everyone, including myself, wrote them off after a rough start to the '08 season.  28 returning players from the championship team last year.  Can they make it 3 in a row?  I will not count them out.

Aquinas does bring back some talent and they always are good but I think this is Brynes year. Last year they were having a great season and lost a game they should not have lost and I believe they will represent South Carolina this year and be the nation's best.

Re: 2009 season

I really like Katy and what they have coming back. They will put a new signal caller in place, but Mike Stojkovic will be a solid quarterback, who can run and throw. Will Jeffrey is back at running back and will be key. The receiving core is experienced and most importantly the offensive line is big and experienced led by Shep Klink (6-6 285), who has already committed to Texas A&M. On defense they return a ton of talent as well including safety Sam Holl. This is an experienced group that knows how to win.

Re: 2009 season

Look out for Oaks Christian aka "Hollywood High" with Nick Montana (Washington) and terrfic RB/LB Malcom Jones leading the way on offense. In addition OL Erick Kohler is a beast and the defense is in good hands with DE Cassius Marsh a ferocious playmaker who is constantly in the backfield.

Re: 2009 season

Oaks Christian will be a very good team, but I'm not sure they are as talented as St. Thomas Aquinas, Byrnes or Katy. Plus anybody have a prediction from SOMEWHERE in the Northern part of the country.

Re: 2009 season

Iona Prep in New York should be pretty good. All-State QB (Tyrae Woodson-Samuels) and RB (Jeff Mack) returning. Not sure if they're national-championship good, but that's a great start to a spread offense.

Re: 2009 season

Is St. Ignatius (OH) going to be as good as last season or is there a significant talent dropoff for this club? I know they are always strong and their head coach led the U.S. team to the U-19 championship recently, but Ohio is always a tough place to play and nothing is gauranteed there.

Re: 2009 season

My opinion is they will not finish the season undefeated. St. Iggy will have a great season with one or at most two losses but I think they will have a hiccup at some point in the season.

Re: 2009 season

I also think Malvern will have a down season and I think that Liberty will be the team to beat in the Keystone state. They return a ton of talent off a state championship team including the quarterback, which is always a key in high school. Liberty should win another title in PA.

Re: 2009 season

I think it will be a down year for football in the keystone state. I think nearby neighbor Ohio will field several teams which will finish their season ranked in the top 100 in the country (ST. X, ETC ETC).

Re: 2009 season

While PA does not look as strong as some years, a few national polls have teams like Liberty (Bethlehem) and Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg) ranked pretty high in the pre-season. I kno pre-season rankings don't matter too much, but the point is that there should be some pretty good teams from the Keystone State.

Re: 2009 season

pre season polls are a total **** shoot. I am guessing a team will come out of nowhere and win the CLass 4A PA title, and they will be ranked top ten by the end of the year.
