Re: Weight Watchers Runners - June 29-July 5

Great article - thanks for posting - for me it hits especially close to home as I celebrate this wonderful holiday and our freedom and think of my daughter serving our country out on mission somewhere in the middle east.  I was thinking today that they must do something to commemorate the day but there will be no bbq's or fireworks for her - not this year.  Enjoy your families, enjoy our freedoms and stay safe!  Thank you to any past or present soldiers that read this thread - I appreciate your service to our country!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - June 29-July 5

I'm so happy that you like the article.  It actually made me bawl like a baby.  Not only is it touching, but I feel so amazed that I am now a runner and could potentially add to those miles.  At over 300 lbs. I had no life.  Every mile I've run, every pound I've shed reminds me that my life really can be wonderful and that I have control over my own happiness.  I love running events because for the first time in my life I belong to a "club" for which I never even considered being a part..

I too am grateful for our soldiers.  They keep us safe so that we can continue to enjoy our peace and freedom....and more running!  I also send my love to moms of soldiers.  I can't imagine what it must be like to send your baby off to war.  What a wonderful thing this mom is doing to "run to" her son.  Wow.

Today I completed my 24th race since 8/30/08.  I ran the 5K in 26:24, a PR and 46 seconds better than my last PR.  Goes to show that training, being good to your body, and  a love for running pay off at the finish line.

Best wishes to you all on the Fabulous weekend!

Thanks for posting that, Rachelle. It was a really touching story.

I've always heard about the feeling of freedom running can give a person and am very much looking forward to when I can get out and do some of those long runs to clear my head.

I hope your race went well today.

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - June 29-July 5

I haven't done any running in about 2 weeks (it has been so long that I don't remember), I finally dragged myself out this morning. I ran a little over a mile. I figured I would start slowly especially since we have a bike ride planned for today with a neighbor. It felt good to be out there again. And I am hopeful the endorphins will pick my mood up!

My info: Diane, 51 years old, married, live in Central NJ,  Mother of 3 (DS19, DD24 & DS26), WW since October 2006 - got rid of 130 of 140 pounds (gained 20 and working on getting rid of them and the last 10 pounds to goal), Runner since July 2007, completed my first 5K in October 2007, have since completed multiple 5Ks, a 5 miler and a half marathon.

Enjoying an afternoon by the pool, having a few beers and watching DH cook me supper - ahhhh life is good!!  Ran my 10 miles this morning and have now had 4 runs in a row that have been enjoyable - I do think I was having some medication issues and I am so glad to be off blood pressure meds and those dang anti-inflamms that made me need blood pressure meds!!  Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!!  4 weeks from today I will be running Chicago HM with Darlene, Lifen, my "fast friend" and a bazillion other loony runners - can't wait!!!!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - June 29-July 5

Thanks for the article, Rachelle.  Very inspiring!   And what a connection for mom and son.

Hope everyone had a great 4th!  I traveled out of town this weekend -- was really looking forward to seeing friends.  But, dreading the probablity that food would be "pushed."  It was.  Starting with showing up to a table filled with huge cookies, with frosting drying and decorations waiting.   The cookies were around ALL weekend and I love sweets.

I thought activity points would REALLY come in handy.  But, ugh...I was on a mini-vacation, I really wanted to relax!  I woke up on Saturday at 615am and told myself if I just got out the door for a brief run, that would be success.  So, I ran while others were sleeping.  10 minutes into my run, I spotted what I thought was a dollar on the sidewalk.  Lucky me, I thought!  Well, I was really rewarded for my run...  Turns out it was a 100 dollar bill!  Glad I woke up to get those AP points!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - June 29-July 5

Hi everyone. Wanted to post before the new thread starts. I'm on vacation in Orlando.  It's been nice & relaxing hanging by the pool, playing games with my siblings & a lot of rockband too.  This morning my brother & I went to the hotel fitness center. I did 30 min elliptical & 40 min on TM. Felt good to work out. Tomorrow I will either run or do the fitness center again.

Joni - how cool to find $100 on a run!!

Hope everyone had a great 4th!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - June 29-July 5

Good Morning Everyone!

I am so glad that I came across this website today.  I went from a couch potato to running an entire 5K for the WW Walk It Challenge.  I too had my scheduled posted in my kitchen and everyday knew I had to fulfill the training commitment.  I recorded my time/distance after every workout to track my progress, but now I feel lost.  I did register for another 5K in Aug - The Cape Shore Foundation on 8/22 in Cambridge, MA but I'm not feeling to same commitment to training.

Something amazing did come out of my goal to become more active/fit, I have inspired my family to exercise more.  My daughters are now running and will participate in the next 5K with me.  (Who knew I had that much influence.)

I have joined WW many times but this time I have been the most successful, although I have gained 5lbs in the last few weeks - lack of running, vacation, too many rainy days.  So it was nice to see what other members are doing to stay OP.

The sun is finally out again here in MA!! maybe I can motivate myself to go for a run.
