Does increase in mileage reduce sex drive?

Okay, I don't think this is inappropriate for this board because it is a scientific question. I am a male, age 39 and just hit my 3rd week of 42 miles. At the most in the past I have run 36 in 3 straight weeks so this is a 1st. My question is has anyone experienced a reduction in libito when crossing the 40mpw line? I have a little but it may simply be a lack of sleep/diet/stress, etc.

Thanks

Re: Does increase in mileage reduce sex drive?
40? No, not for me.

90? Yeah, a little.

So, I don't know if it comes down to your running history, but if you're new to running, or have never really run a lot of mileage, then perhaps your 40 is equivalent to someone else's 60 or 80 or 100. What I'm saying is I don't think it's the number that's important, but rather the level of fatigue you are reaching with your workouts. Age also likely plays a factor in this equation.

Running's more important anyway. Keep it up

Re: Does increase in mileage reduce sex drive?
I can run 150 and have no problem (37 M) - I completed a marathon Sunday and after I recovered - I was ready. Sadly it takes 2 to be ready.

Seriously - If you are very tired, going into new mileage territory - You may feel a little less drive, but hey fake it - women do all the time.

Really now - It has nothing to do with 40 or 90 miles. Once you are used to running hte mileage it will come back just as strong as before.

If one is tired, one will probably have less desire for sex. How many miles before one gets tired? It is different for everyone. Someone may be tired for just running 10 miles a week, and some are ok with 100+ miles.

"but hey fake it - women do all the time".-What a crass thing to say. Perhaps that is your experience?
Anyway, to the original poster: How important is sex to you? I would imagine that your body is over tired and sex is something that you just don't have the extra energy for. My guess is that if you reduce your mileage, your body will respond in kind.

Answer: Yes, but.

Translation: Yes, your libido has been reduced by your increase in training mileage. If you stabilize at this mileage, I strongly suspect that your libido will come back. And when you reduce your training mileage--Hiyo, Silver!

It's all a question of what you're used to. My libido is--well gosh, pretty high all the time. But I distinctly remember how high training mileage (65 mpw for me) in the old days, my mid-20s, clearly tamped it down. And I remember how it sprang back to life towards the end of the season when I was peaking.

Hope that helps.

Re: Does increase in mileage reduce sex drive?
Kinda depends, what were you shooting for, a quick sprint? Maybe a long tempo session? Or would you going for time and distance? I hope you weren't doing the fartlek thing, that can be so embarassing!
perhaps you need to slow down and go for some intervals, work on your pace know what i mean? some warm ups are always apreaciated!
I am sure as your stamina improves you will be doing TRI's in no time!!!!!

Re: Does increase in mileage reduce sex drive?
Yes, it is actually scientific, and more specifically both physical and physiological.
Mileage can affect it especially when mixed with quality. The ?Runners High? one feels with running is produced by the release of Endorphins. Strangely enough, it?s the same hormone produced during a climax (no wonder we love to run).
So, yes the more ?Runner?s Highs? you get, the let desire you will have to procreate.

No, I increased my mileage, lost weight, and it increased my DH's sex drive drametically. ;-)
