Candida ~ need help

I have been diagnosed with candida (a yeast like fungus that is over active) and am beginning a low sugar  low carb candida diet.  Does anyone have any similar experiences they can share?  I am currenlty running 25-40 miles per week.  I began the diet 2 days ago.  I have taken the last three days off and feel that I will have hard time on my planned 10 miler tomorrow.

Well I dont have the same problem but I went on a low fat low carb diet to lose weight - I was eating carb wise - a banana, apple, 10 spears of asparagus, 1/4 cup oatmeat and 1/4 cup brown rice daily - I ran 25 - 30 miles per week - PR`d in a half marathon, trained for 1-2 hours every day - either weights, cardio or some combination. I was eating a lot of protien - I would suggest of you need help look at some natural body builder site - while they don`t necessarily eat for endurance they do have to fuel some serious workouts while keeping the carbs low - I have my diet written by a guy who`s a pro builder - the really know a LOT about nutrition

I would also suggest that the doctor who has so cheerfully suggested an enormous change in your diet also holds a little of the responsibility for suggesting alternatives!

If your doctor isn't a whole lot of help on this front, consider gritting your teeth and shelling out for a good dietician, or even ring around sports physios and ask them if they could recommend someone for you to see. A good sports physiotherapist often have their finger on the pulse - with a whole bunch of stuff, like where to get the best shoes etc, and I bet they'd also have plenty of clients who had weird diet stuff going on for them.

Good luck! Don't forget to come back and let us all know how you go with it (aww I love a happy ending)

LOL there are theories surrounding "sugar addiction" - although there is no evidence to support a true addiction likely in humans (see http://www.foodnavigator.com/Science-Nutrition/Sugar-addiction-unlikely-in-humans-says-scientist), there does seem to be the possibility that sugar is very hard to let go of.

From my own experience, I've found that I crave sugar after a meal - I love a chocolate or lolly after a good healthy meal, and I'm not sure if it's because of the GI thing sorting itself out, and my body "knowing" the easy way to boost my energy, fast. Apparently as you eat it less you crave it less, so hang in there!

And how nice to have your own personal dietician hehe...

You should go to your local herb store and do a good strong yeast detox. It works! then start taking a good probiotic daily.

yes candida loves sugar. Artificial sugars as well so dont go chasing diet soda's Anything labeled Aspartame artificial sugar.  Anything finishing in Ose a sugar. These artificial sugars are 200-800 times sweeter! If you want a insulin spike!! If you want something natural to add in your drinks try Stevia liquid drops.

Coconut oil is very good fighting against fungus and cleaning your digestion system. Try cooking with it, it stays stable in high heat unlike olive oil.

Re: Candida ~ need help

My wife is a celiac who also battles a systemic yeast (A.K.A. Candida) problem.  We watch her blood sugar regularly and use a natural sweetener called, Agave Nectar, to make our favorite low GI desert(s).  She also eats protein with every meal which helps stabilize blood sugar so that it does not spike, which the yeast loves.  Probiotics are big and we did find two nutrition bars that didn't seem to cause her any problems.  The more popular of the two is Larabars and the other is Allerenergy (not considered low GI).

Generally speaking it is not advised to use any sweeteners until you have the yeast in check.  My wife's doctor is a Naturopathic Doctor and is wonderful with this type of problem.  As a ray of hope, my wife cannot have gluten, wheat, soy, sugar, yeast, casein and lactose.  It has been a very long, up hill battle but we have found balance.

Best of luck, I understand how difficult this can be.
