Hit with High Blood pressure; Genetics.....Medication problems?

Hi,

In my 20's -30's I was a sub 3hr. marathon runner.

In my 40's around 3:15......... Now in my 50's and hit with

high BP due to family history, my running is not going well.

Is their a better drug for runners?  I'm on Benicar 5mg.  Every drug I try

seems to interfere with my training.

Thanks!

Re: Hit with High Blood pressure; Genetics.....Medication problems?

I'm 48 years old and was at 180/95 most days. Now I've been on Lisinopril 20mg for about 9 months now and I have not had any issues with my training. Doctor recommended it because of 30-35 miles per week running. He said it won't make you tired. I've tried Varapomil because its suppose to also help with Raynauds but it messes with my sleep. I've had better luck taking Norvasc, it alleviates the effects of Raynauds but not the frequency. So I take the lisinopril in the morning and Norvasc in the afternoon, so together I am at 120/79 as long as I'm consistent.

Good Luck

My hands are never cold when I'm running.

Diovan HCT has been working great for me, it's good for active people....
