half wit half, first 1/2 trail run

just looking for a little bit of advice.  Running the Half Wit Half marathon this weekend in Reading, PA.  I do some trail running as part of my training for the Richmond marathon in Nov.  I am in good physical condition with a pretty stout lower body from years of soccer, skiiing, tennis, etc..

my only concern is elevation change.  I train near VA Beach where there is little or no elevation changes.  When I do trail run here or do my "hill training" runs I do push them hard, but like I say the hills I can find are very short.

Any suggestions on the race this weekend and how a sea level runner can cope with 1500 feet of elevation change?

Thanks

Bob

Bob,

My apologies for not seeing this message from you until today. We'd love to hear how your race went and how you handled the elevation changes. Let us know! ~Toby

Re: half wit half, first 1/2 trail run

I have run this race twice and loved it each time. The elevation change on the route is not that bad, and the climbs are not that long. The trail is pretty much single track so you will not have a lot of opportunity to pass but the heat will probably be more of a problem than the elevation change. The difference is only 1500 feet over 13 miles. so that is not that big of a deal. The race director, Ron is just about the best race director on the planet. I would kill to run in this race this weekend.

You are going to enjoy yourself.  I would sign up now for the Mt. Penn Mudfest as that is their signature event and just about the best trail race in America.

Spencer.
