New England Runners! I NEED HELP

This will seem very random - but have some questions for you all-What radio station do you listens to, and around what time do you listen. I am planning a new NE race and looking into the PR end of it. Thanks!

When I lived in NH, I used to listen to AM WBZ (1030, I think) and Sport's Radio 850. I reckon both are pretty popular, esp. with the morning commute crowd.

CR is great for New England races. I used to look find most of my races from CR's calender.

Brochures left at other races might be a good idea, too - I always grabbed a bunch from the table before leaving.

I think that advertising on Cool Running, NE Runner etc. is much more effective than radio in my opinion. When I am looking for a race those are my 1st stops for info. Depending on where you are located, banners can also be very effective as driving by will stimulate local interest.

I find New England races on Cool Running and usually register through Active.com, it seems like most races I do are listed on Active.

the only radio station it think might be worth looking into would be sport radio WEEI (850 am/103.7 FM). i have heard the Cardi's race and Doug Flutie's race advertised on there.

Cool Running is where I find all the races. Although I seem to run the same races every year.

I do listen to 850 and 1030.

If a race looks interesting and is a good fit in my schedule, I will probably sign-up if it is:
1) listed on Cool Running
2) has a website that gives all the details I want
3) has online registration

Paying for placement on the front page of Cool Running would help get my attention. As would sticking a flyer under my window at a race or having a table at an expo.

Of course, none of the above is neccessary if the race is part of the USATF-NE Grand Prix since that guarantees a crowd of fast runners. But there's a price to that - just like everything else in life!

What are the details of the race you're planning(location, distance, date, etc???). Good luck with your planning and PR!

Contact the running clubs around the area you are planning your race and they will likely send out an email to the club members. A link to a registration form would be most appreciated. Here are some RI and MA groups:

Tuesday Night Turtles, Warwick, RI
Narragansett Running Association, Narragansett, RI
Rhode Island Road Racers, E. Prov(?), RI
Wampanoag Runners, Swansea or Somerset, MA
Central MA Striders, Worcestor(?), MA
Boston Athletic Club, Boston, MA

RunningTimes may be another NE friendly page to post your race. They are based out of Shelton, CT

I'm in the Boston area and I would most definitely avoid any race that I heard advertised on the radio, assuming it would be a gigantic charity jog-a-thon. The New England Runner site and the Coolrunning calendar, along with local clubs are where I generally look for info on upcoming races.

I am in Hartford area and mostly use Coolrunning.com site but also use Active.com, NE Runner magazine on-line calender.

Local races go through a local running shop (JB Sports) and I am on their eMail listing to notifiy me when races come up - usually because I have run those races before so I already know about them anyway.

In addition to the sources listed above, I also use runningintheusa.com to find races.

Besides radio, you might list/advertise your race in the Hockomock Swamp Rat, which bills itself as the Journal of New England Racing. I somehow won a subscription to it after running the James Joyce Ramble two years ago. It's a pretty strange publication, but I'm hooked on it. I'm on CR a lot, but use the Hockomock Calendar to look for races because it lists by date what's coming up in every state in New England. I still can't figure out how to do that in CR.
