    Re: 200lb + Group---Sept. 21-27

Fluffy -- Thanks for the welcome.  I did an attempt at W4D1 yesterday, but since I was trying to do distance (vs time) I just couldn't do the 1/2 mile portions. So I will try it again for time only, and I know that i can do that.  I looked up Slow Fat Triathlete and put it on my wish list at Amazon.

Fat Man -- Thanks for all the advise. I actually have been swimming ~3 days/wk as my alternate activity, but when it gets too cold, I'm switching to workouts at the gym, and swims at the indoor city pool. I have my sights on a sprint tri in June10.

Donna914 -- I actually read some of your posts on the 7/27 thread, and I found it really great to follow everyones stories in that group. So great to hear that you finished up on your birthday, but sad to see that you are having some setbacks (not to mention the job thing).  Any disturbance in our "Force" really does tend to impact on our focus and ability to run a program.  However, on the up side, we can use running as a means to "get away from it all".

Maureen -- Congratulations on just getting out and DOING IT!  The first step is always the hardest... then its just getting out and doing it again for each workout.

Welcome to the other newbies (like me) who are just starting the program.  It seems there is a lot of great support in this log. It is good to hear the stories of the "more experienced" C25K'ers on this thread because we know what lies ahead.  I look forward to hearing about everyone's first 5K in the weeks and months ahead, as I dig around, and find some local ones of my own to aspire to.

When I started training in ea. August (pre-C25K, but same concept), I did not lose any wt and was very frustrated.  However, I just figure that I am building heavier muscle which was replacing the weight of fat that I burned.  But my appetite (for sweets) has moderated, my legs are toning, and my workouts are longer, so I am finally making some progress.  I've lost about 7 lbs in 7 wks, and I feel a lot better, especially after workouts. Only 90 lbs to go.  I ordered the Nike+ kit today.  If you don't wear Nike, where do you put the sensor? (between laces & tongue, maybe?).  BTW, my nighttime snack is now unsalted almonds, instead of mini-snickers. HA!

Okay - hear is a basic question.  I see many people have info below their post info about what week/day they are on for C25K, etc. and some have countdown timelines for C25K. How do you add those? Also, I downloaded the C25K program from iTunes, but how do I make it work - where might it have ended up on my Nano?

Jasmine,  I haven't figured out all the formatting, but it's in your profile, under signature.  Just adding a signature to every post

Irish  - I felt weird posting all that stuff because math is SOOO not my thing.... but I think it's important for us all, long term, to lose properly . None of us will ultimately be happy with big losses  that leave us flabby and weak.  Long term success depends on fitness, not LIGHTNESS.

MAureen, I can very much understand what you say about different perspectives between you and your husband, subtle differences in communication sometimes make all the difference. But it's also good that you didn't let it discourage you . You're going to learn something yoru husband maybe already knows,  and that is our bodies are capable of a LOT more than our minds are.  In two , maybe three weeks, you will look back on 1 minute runs and laugh.

Jasmine does your nano have a category specifically for podcasts? I don't have a nano just an older style 32gb but it has an category labeled podcasts & that's where mine went even though I had tried to make it into a playlist. I hope this helps.

Thanks LifePassingMeBy.  I think having someone on the same step as me will be sooo helpful.  Plus, it will help me keep my committment to not just start it, but finish!!  I have started things too many times to count, it's the follow through that seems to be my problem.  I am anxious to get started and get my life on track.  As I write this, my husband went to do a triathalon that he hasn't even specifically trained for!!  He also has a half-marathon on his schedule for October.  I want to be able to show my girls that Daddy isn't the only one who can compete.  I am sick of being on the sideline but it is hard to believe I can do a race in just 2 months!!  I feel much further away than that.  I am so hapy to have found a place where I know others know where I am coming from.

    Re: 200lb + Group---Sept. 21-27

    Hey Everyone.....

Such great posts since I logged off my computer yesterday morning!  I've been housesitting this weekend.  Glad to see the new folks joining up.  I used to think that online support groups (or support teams, or supportive friends from other parts of the world) were a bunch of hogwash, but I find myself thinking about you all during the day.

I didn't formally exercise yesterday at all because I vended at a craft show in my home neighborhood...an outdoor park setting.  It was financially the most successful show I have done in the 10+ years I've been doing them.  So I'm really jazzed about going to the running store tomorrow and getting my fitted shoes!  I celebrated my success with some wine and went overboard, so I need to hydrate before I run my W3D3 today.

I'm going to register for the Jingle Bell Run (5K) in Cincinnati on Dec 5.  By that time I should be able to do well enough to be confident while I'm there.  My brother, who alerted me to C25K, is also running.

Well I better go do some housework now.  I'm such a slob!

OH....and here's some good news....I'm now using the very last hole in my belt that I drilled a couple of weeks ago as a "goal hole".  Before I changed my eating habits and started exercising, I was 5 holes away from there.  4.5 inches!

And I'm all for a daily thread.  Suggested title "200 lb+... Couch-to-5K...Sept 28"   That way other C25K'ers will find us easier.  Maybe?

    Have a great day!

    Re: 200lb + Group---Sept. 21-27

Good morning to you all!  I'd like to say its SO refreshing to see that one is NOT alone in this!  Ive been on and off the wagon the entire past year, and my goal is to run 5K by years end.. Preferably my birthday in NOV.. I live in CHicago, so we dont have much outdoor time left before the Cold sets in.. But ive been trying to run atleast 2 times a week if not 3. Im in my last semester to complete my BA in dec, so i know all about life getting in the way of running when im worried about Deadlines and studying while im out running! I have lost 8 lbs in the past month, im thinking its water weight for now.. but my main focus is getting that distance endurance going.. So far Im at about 1 mile-1.5 without breaks. Ive found it more difficult when doing intervals of walking/running.. It works better for me to start off at a brisk, purposeful walk, and then when i feel the burning in my shins and calves i break into my run and take it from there.. Ive been using a park as my measure, its 1.5 miles all around (according to maparun.com)  so my goal is to be able to run 2 laps around it eventualy.  I have a seasoned running friend as my motivator  but yes, as we all know.. THEY DONT GET IT.  Shes awesome and my best friend, but shes never weighed over 130 lbs. so uh yeah.  Im at 252 at the moment, and have 100 lbs to lose, and a 5 K to master. THose are my goals.     THanks for reading..
