NYC Marathon: TV coverage

Here, for the record--and for those of us who won't be running it--is what the NYC Marathon website says regarding TV coverage:

Television and Web Coverage

Television

In New York: The race will be broadcast live exclusively on WNBC Channel 4 for five hours. Telemundo 47 will have live cut-ins during the race as well as segments leading up to the marathon. The WNBC broadcast will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the pre-race warm-up and will follow the race through the five boroughs, across the bridges, and over the finish line until 2:00 p.m.

In addition, the one-hour highlight show will be on Channel 4 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

In the United States: NBC Sports will broadcast a one-hour highlights show nationwide beginning at 2:00 p.m. EST on November 5; check your local listings for details. In New York City, the program will appear on Channel 4.

Around the World: A one-hour highlights show will be broadcast in nearly 125 countries worldwide. Check your local listings for details.

There is web coverage ...per the most recent email from NYRR...
Watch the Race Live, On the Web
This year, for the first time, New York Road Runners and NBCSports on MediaZone are offering online interactive video streaming of the ING New York City Marathon. Marathon fans can watch the race live on Sunday, November 5, or catch the action after the event by purchasing an on-demand replay. Best of all, marathon fans can choose which of the 37,000 runners they want to focus on. By entering a runner?s official race number, the viewer can watch that runner on three "RunnerCam" cameras positioned along the course and at the finish. Viewers will also have exclusive access to "LanceCam," a dedicated camera that will follow seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong as he runs the marathon?offered free for the first 30 minutes. To learn more and to order this service for only $4.99, click here.

Note where is says click here in the newsletter, there is no link. I'd just Google it.

Re: NYC Marathon: TV coverage
On my DVR last night, it said local coverage was from 9am-130pm and national coverage was 130pm-230pm. I wonder if that is right.

For those among us in Europe, the race will be covered live on Eurosport UK (Ch 1), 14.30 - 17.30 GMT.

Anybody willing to record the local TV coverage for me? I'll pay for the tape and a reasonable fee.

I bet most marathon fans will watch the frontrunners. But I also bet there are a bunch of Lance fans out there who don't care about marathoning in general. They may be willing to pony up a fin to watch him prove the doubters wrong.

KudzuRunner: Cottonwood was just looking for someone to record the race for him. There's no copyright infringement, since he plans to use it for personal, noncommercial use. (I'm a lawyer).

Re: NYC Marathon: TV coverage
Put me down for that DVD as well...maybe we can get one person to record it and then ship that DVD from one Coolrunner to the next!

Rant - What else in the sports world is on at that time of day that is better to watch than the NY Marathon?! I LOVE the NFL, but do we need 8 hours of pregame coverage? You'd think one national channel would ifnd it interesting enough to put on. I cannot stand marathon coverage in the US - I'm going to have to move my couch up to my computer room so I can be comfortable when I watch these races since my desk chair is hard wood. Grrr...

Re: NYC Marathon: TV coverage
I would assume that the webcast will be the live NBC coverage, therefore we should expect some inappropriate breaks for commercials.

If anyone out there is taping it, I too would very much like a DVD of the race. Can trade London 2006 on DVD for it, or cover any reasonable costs.

Re: NYC Marathon: TV coverage
Seems to me (based on these two items from the FAQ) that up to 3 people could share a single subscription:

20. Can I watch The ING New York City Marathon 2006 video service on my work PC and my home PC?
You can watch this service on up to three PCs no matter where they are located. (back to top)

21. Can I log in multiple times with an All Access Pass?
Yes. You can enter and exit the video service as many times you like during the day that was purchased. (back to top)
