September 24, 1960, the oldest active commissioned vessel in the US Navy and the world's first nuclear powered aircraft carrier, the USS Enterprise, CVN-65, was launched.  The USS Constitution, a fine ship to visit if you run Boston, remains the oldest commissioned naval vessel afloat anywhere in the world.
