Re: * * * Spring Starters - August* * *

Hello everybody!!

I have been MIA for the last week or so while out in California having fun in wine country. My husband and I went along with another couple and rented a house in Napa. Needless to say,it was wonderful! We have been a few times before and always enjoy going back. We had lots of good wine, fun at wineries and lots of good food! And yes, before you ask, I did do my runs. The weather was so pleasant, cool in the mornings with no humidity and warm as the day went on (hot even some days). On our running route there were hot air balloons several mornings, landing just across the road at a park. Very pretty!

Sounds like a lot going on here while I was away!

Juliyou go girl!! Six mileswow! I think you've definitely got it in you to do a half and eventually the marathon. No doubt in my mind!

Mara--since you've already done the 35 miles, what's on the agenda for tomorrow? lol You are quite the runner!

Clarebo--so sorry to hear the treadmill pooped out on you again! Bad, bad treadmill

Sueyou've probably already done your 5K, but that's the key word you've done it! Sorry those speedy people skew the curve, but you can definitely hold your head up for doing the race. Like someone else said, think of all those people sitting on their chairs and not doing anything. One other thought about the finish. Even a race in the Olympics with the greatest runners in the whole world  has someone who finishes last. It's the running and trying and finishing that count. Go Sue!!

Rose--glad your conference is over and sorry to hear that the allergies are kicking up. Fall allergies are the pits! You are such a positive person and such a good encourager! Everybody on here loves you right back!

Blues--you're getting so close to the end! Just keep on keeping on and be sure to call out a big TA-DA when you finish! And of course let us hear from you before you finish too

Next goal for me is a 5K (my first) on Oct. 17. Must train!

So good to be back here with all of you! Happy running everyone!!

Ann

Hey all. Haven't been posting because I'd been slacking (again). But did another 28 minutes on Monday after 10 days off, and it was extremely tough, but I finished. My lungs were the most disturbed by this sudden return to physical activity, but somehow I managed a faster time than normal, 12 mm average. So I'm not sure what's up with that, but I'll take it. Not sure if we'll do another 28 tonight or try to go on to 30, I'll ask the husband and see what he's comfortable with. 28 might be nice to build up some strength again, but we're probably capable of going on to 30 at this point so we'll see!

Re: * * * Spring Starters - August* * *
Just an update, ended up moving on to the FINAL WEEK, so 30 minutes. Somehow I kept my newer, faster pace of 12 minute miles! Of course, it doesn't feel very fast, especially when I remember I was the last kid in high school usually and running about a 10:30 mile. But still, I am impressed with myself and hoping that with several more weeks of the 30 minute repeat that I will start to see sub-12mm, and that will be exciting. Going to finally try the local track on Friday I think (have to pay a little to park, but it's going to be worth it for the lighting as it is starting to get darker earlier). Hope to hear from you all on how you are doing!

Okay, so I'm all in favor of change...but just a little slow figuring out how to "reply". Found the Login so that's good. What has happened with lines through some parts of posts? I'm sure it's not censoring, just some random thing I guess. And they've shown people's user names differently like Rose Noname and J M?  I do like the option to receive email notifications instead of it coming on automatically.

Blue (or JM)--so happy to hear you're on the final track to finish! Isn't it a great feeling to look back and see how far you've come! I think youf 12 minutes is great (since I'm still working toward that pace) You go girl!

Having beautiful fall weather so far this week and the tide is cooperating so I had a nice run on the beach yesterday morning and a great bike ride today. Just trying to get ready for my first 5K in about two weeks.

Sue, how was your race?

Hope everyone has a great day and happy running!

Ann

Re: * * * Spring Starters - October* * *

Hi Everyone!

I was home in NY for the past 5 days or so, to attend my cousin's wedding. While home I only ran once but it was W5D3 of OHR, so that means I did a whole 38 minutes!! I was going SO SLOW at the end of that run, but I made it. AND, when I returned home a few days later, I discovered that I had lost another pound!! Woohooo!! I am now down 14 pounds Slow and steady wins the race.

Unfortunately I didn't make it to the 5K last weekend, because that morning I woke up with a very bad sore throat and a fever. I will get 'em next time I suppose. I swam last night and will either bike or bike and run tonight.

Best wishes to everyone!!

Re: * * * Spring Starters - October* * *

Ann - the changes are throwing me off too! I'm still trying to figure all this out.

Welcome back Rose, I don't know what to say to kick you in to gear, I also am out of gear.

Sue that is great, 38 minutes, way to gooo!!!

Well looks like after one week back on track I'll be doing another week off. Aunt Flo came to visit (what do you all do? I know, TMI sorry). I feel like a cripple. So the final week of C25K has been pushed back to next week. Hope you are all doing better than me this week.

Hey am I the only one left? Well another 30 minutes down. I guess I'll let this thread die if no one else pipes up, good news is I am going into my final week of C25K. A little slower pace today but no surprise given the week off.

Re: * * * Spring Starters - October* * *

I can post again!  Woo hoo!  I have not been able to post for two weeks!  I thought I was being blocked or something (I had no REPLY button to post)...now I see...we have a new updated site.  COOL!

Well...as you might remember, my treadmill pretty much is a gonner....PLUS, I have had this respiratory illness for over two weeks...my chest is just so congested and junky.

Yesterday I could not stand myself and decided to see if I could walk on my treamill...it still goes...but threw me off at 2.5 miles over two weeks ago, and I have not been on it since. My plan was to see if it would allow me to just walk, that maybe the faster speed is just too hard on the old thing...PLUS...me being still kind of sick and all.  I got on it and just said heck with it, try a slow jog.  Both myself and the treadmill handled a one mile jog (going about 4.8 mph).  I was surprised that

A.  I was able to do it (esp with the long lay off and my bug)

B.  The treadmill handled it

I held on for dear life, which made jogging VERY difficultand made my shoulders ache...but it was better than the nothing I have been doing the last few weeks.  I then got on my recumbent bike and did a measly 3 miles (I was up to 10 before getting sick).

It's a start!  And I am looking for a new treadmill!

How about everyone else?

Sue? Aspins? Julie...Mara...Clifton...Chrissy....Blues.....Rose........the rest of you....how's it going?

Clare-It's good to hear from you! I was sure our little thread had died out!

Running has been going great! I have been mainly posting on the half marathon thread because...well...I will be running a half marathon December 5th! It's the St. Jude's in Memphis. A little boy from our church was there for 17 months (he recently passed away), and some people formed a team. They tried to get me to join, but I didn't feel I was ready. However, I thought a lot about it and decided to go for it. I am up to 7 miles, going to run 8 Monday. It's funny, but I have to say the first 5 miles are the hardest. After that, it hasn't been hard to add on.

It's a dream come true for me, and I'm very excited.

I would love to hear from everyone else.

Juli

Re: * * * Spring Starters - October* * *

Welcome back ladies,

I notice now I have to log in every time before I can see the reply button (used to be you could hit reply THEN log in). Anyways, having done the 30 minute jog 4 times now I am going to consider myself a C25 Graduate!! I was originally going to do a 5k that would be in about a week but I decided I really want more time to prep (I still haven't gone 3 miles) and am planning on doing one Thanksgiving morning that I'm really looking forward to. Plus this one will have a chip time and all that so I can set an official PR for my first 5k.

Clare that sounds dangerous! Maybe check yard sales and see if anyone's getting rid of theirs? I am lucky for the good year round weather out here but it's going to get tricky when it gets darker. Have considered joining a gym as well.

Juli that is awesome! Sounds like you are making quick progress to half marathon length.

Rose that is great, when I went out on Friday I did the whole 30 minutes but only got in about 2 miles myself. I'm trying to talk the husband into a gym maybe since he doesn't like the track at night, let me know if you like it.
