Anyone know of this condition?

I have had a string of injuries that for sometime went untreated.  During that time my foot motion changed due to pain and functional breakdown in my foot.  Since I have recieved treatment for most everything including some spots of inflammation in each foot and tendonitus.  My current, and seemingly last issue is that my 1st metatarsal joint seems to be lower than the rest of the ball of my foot.  This makes rolling through a normal step motion difficult.  My arch does not seem to flex as it should and I also get extreme tension and discomfort along the outside of my leg, along the calf muscle.  My podiatrist doesn't refer to this as anything specific and declares that much of the treatment requires a sturdy, neutral shoe and neutral insoles of a certain kind (because he doesn't like insoles, believing most of them are not worth the money and time.)  He suggests I just try to re-establish the proper movement and feeling of motion with my foot.  Although things are a bit better, I long for the days where I may walk normal again with nothing in my shoe that wasn't there originally.

Does anything know of this condition or anyone's experiences with something similar?

I would appreciate any comments that may help me understand the situation or what may come of it eventually.

Thanks.

Obviously, I can't diagnose, but it might be sesamoiditis.  What you're reporting sounds right. Take a look at this article. http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_5/191.shtml#bigtoe

We've come this far and it's still the same,
Runnin' out here in the rain.
Just one more mile, if only you could fly.
