In honor of the NYC Marathon, I decided to.....

You finish the statement.

As for me, I decided to run my longest run this season and see how I did.  Before this past week, my longest run was 5 miles.  Last week I ran 2 10K runs on the treadmill.  Tonight, I decided to run 10 miles.  I paced myself decently and had a goal of 1 hour 40 min (10 min miles).  I usually run my 5 mile runs around 42 min, so it seemed logical.  Not sure why, but I felt good out there.  I had little pain and did not really tire until the last 2 miles.  My time.... just under 1 hour 24 minutes.

What did you do today?

set my goal this week to run 26.2 miles. I usually run 3 miles a day during the week (15 miles) and take rest on the weekends but this week I'm upping the mileage to +2. WAY TO GO MEB!!

I ran the virtual marathon on the NYM site (but unfortunately didn't officially register for it).  26.2 in 3 days 6.1miles  Friday, 8.1 miles Saturday, and 12 miles Sunday.  Also run the fastest 10 mile run I ever did on Sunday 10 miles in 1:53.

Re: In honor of the NYC Marathon, I decided to.....

Eric, when I was running my longest of 10 miles I decided to kick it up to the next level and registered for my first HM.  I gave myself plenty of time to train (6 months) with the "real" plan kicking in about 12 weeks before.  I found that having the race picked out and registered for took away my excuses and really made me focus on the ultimate goal.  Not only my running improved but my eating did as well.  I ran that first HM on 10/18 and have targeted an April race for my next one.  I run a lot more than most people probably do to train for a HM but that is my choice, I really love to run long.  Pick your race, find a good plan, log your miles and your eating habits, and go for it!  We have a half marathon trainers group here (you can find it off the newby site) and there is a lot of very valuable advice and support there.  You can do it!

Cyndi
