Any first timers? Tips for first timers?

Looking to see if there are any first timers out there for the Las Vegas Marathon.  This will be my first marathon ever.  I did a half last February and training has been going decently.  I am a slower runner, but my goal is to finish.

Also would love to hear tips, advice, etc. from any veterans out there.

Thanks!

Re: Any first timers? Tips for first timers?

This is my first rock and roll marathon (and first las vegas marathon). I did my first marathon in August (the ET Full Moon Marathon).

If you're doing the full, I would suggest getting your milage up.  When I was running/walking the marathon I was only able to run until about mile 12, when I had to walk most of the rest from there.

Tips from my friends when I was trying to muster up the courage to do a marathon:

- Take one step at a time

- Some groups recommend you train with the items you will find on the marathon - protein snacks, Sports drinks, etc.

- Carry your water in case the course closes before you can complete the race (which case - move to the sidewalk and keep going)

By the way - my first marathon finish time was 7:10 - not bad since my goal was just to finish the race (and I did not train properly).
