This year will be the second year in a row I have come out to enjoy this race with 3 other teammates from the PHCC Womens Cross Country Team. It is safe to say that we will all be back again next year for a number of reasons.
This is a very well organized event, which tends to take place when the weather is finally a little cooler. The course is an out and back loop with great scenery and inclines minimally after the half mile. The rest of the course is flat with a finish that really sneaks up on you after a couple of quick left hand turns.
The walkers have always been courteous by starting in the back allowing the more serious runner a chance at being competitive and a very likely PR. The timing was chipped and the awards are gorgeous. In particular the plaques which I plan to come back for next year ;). The post race refreshments are a plenty and the cause is a good one.
Now, with all that said my only discrepancy is that the course may fall a little short of being a true 5k. My Garmin watch is equipped with GPS and was worn both years stating a measurement of 3.04 miles. Now, this is not a deal breaker for me whereas a lot of the 5ks I have run are not exactly 3.1 miles but they still make for a great race!
Hope to see you next year!
