Congrats to 20 minute runners!! I can't even imagine what that will be like!
I did add a 4th day to week 3 on Thursday, haven't had time to post though! It went ok, I was still struggling with the 3 minute runs - more with my breathing on Thursday.
Today I tried W4D1 and did not succeed. I was able to complete the 3 minute runs, which continue to be very challenging. I did complete the first 5 min run, I took a 30 second walking break and was able to finish the last half of the run. My legs were in a lot of pain and I could not finish the second 5 minute run, I don't think I even made it to the half way point. I'm really disappointed by having to stop before completing the full run. I'm not sure how much pain I'm feeling versus just plain old weakness in my legs / lack of endurance. I just felt like my legs couldn't hold me up any longer. I slowed my pace on the treadmill as well this time, but did not notice much difference in my ability to complete the runs - I'm now running at 4.5-4.8 at times on the treadmill and walking at 3.0. I really do not want to repeat week 3, I want to see if I can push myself through week 4, maybe taking a 30 second break during the 5 minute run will help - perhaps even extending week 4 from three workouts to five would prepare me better for week 5 and the scary 20 minute run.
I'm not feeling the energy boost that usually follows my workouts today either - not sure if it's just my disappointment in myself masking the energy or what is going on. I have to work Monday and Tuesday, 12 hr shifts back to back, which means no time for a work out as my 12 hr days usually stretch to 15 hrs each day. I will not be able to workout again until Wednesday, although while I'm at work I never sit down during the shift and I'm walking almost the entire time - the floor where I am a nurse is very large and we usually clock about 2-3 miles a day of walking while at work. I'm starting to wonder if being out of work for 2 weeks with the flu has also contributed to my poor endurance during the longer runs, as I was literally doing nothing on my non-workout days for the last 2 weeks...normally I'd be at work chasing after doctors and running from patient to patient!
