Re: 5K in 9 Weeks Start 11/1

Okay, well, I managed to do my first run/walk this morning.   I took my daughter to daycare early so I could run without hassles, but I took our new dog with us (2 year old boxer) so it was kind of hectic!  Didn't really do the true Day 1 of the Couch to 5k, but did walk/jog/sprint (due to dog) for about 25 minutes.  It ws actually pretty easy, so the dog being with me didn't work so good and I need to be able to focus on the run more.  I'm going to download the podcasts tonight so I can be told when to run, hopefully that will help.  Also, working really hard on getting enough protein in my diet and, sigh, no soda.  So far, so good.  So, my question is are we going to be posting our runs/updates daily or is this just gonna be for support and other posts?  I've never been a part of anything like this so I just want to follow protocol!

Have a great day!

Re: 5K in 9 Weeks Start 11/1

Hey Ya'll,

I did get up extra early this morning and went to the park and walked for 30 minutes.  I tried to wait until daylight then I kind of felt like I wasn’t prepared.  I couldn’t get my Ipod to stay on my arm, probably because I put it on the outside of my jacket instead of inside.  I couldn’t get my jacket to zip so I was a little cold.  I wanted to take my drivers license and my cell phone.  Just to feel safe, like if anyone jumped out at me from behind a bush I would throw my drivers license at ‘em and hopefully poke them in the eye…WHATEVER!         I am ridiculous!

Yesterday I wore my Addis running shoes and my calves were hurting.  They are old but since I was out of town, I ran with what I had brought.  I also brought my Ipod with my cool new down loads but I guess I had it running and the batteries needed to be recharged.  So I just grabbed my watch.  Anyway I purchased New Balance running shoes a while back and they are wonderful.  I actually went to a store that actually takes a look at your feet and they decide the best shoe for you.  It is amazing how a different shoes can be.  And according to most threads on here, they say to go and get properly fitted for running shoes.

Hopefully I will be in my groove the next walk or run!

This is a site I found with podcast for running.  It has current music on it and she tells you when its time to run and walk.

Cheers

Looking forward to my "Runners High"

I've lived and made decision under the choke hold of FEAR. I refuse to do it anymore. Just because I am unsure of what will happen, does not make it good or bad. So there is nothing to FEAR. I'll be hopeful and press forward expecting great things

Re: 5K in 9 Weeks Start 11/1

Started my run/walk this morning completed 2miles in 30:10, just about a 15 minute pace. The run was at 12mph pace and the walk was at 16.5mph pace. Not bad for the first real attempt but definately want to get that pace quicker.  How did everyone else do?

Re: 5K in 9 Weeks Start 11/1

Oh my gosh, you just made me crack up laughing.  I have so been there, especially with the stupid IPOD.  If that would have been me, before this current determination to actually succeed, I would have just scratched the whole thing, either not even started or once it fell off I'd have returned because I was so annoyed.  My husband likes to count the number of running shoes I have - because every time I start up again, I buy a new pair.  Let me know how the download goes, I'm trying one tomorrow from Itunes, we can compare.

Re: 5K in 9 Weeks Start 11/1

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to jump in here and report my progress. I started with W1D1 yesterday afternoon. It was pretty easy, but what counts with me is consistency. I hope that being here will give me more reason to continue. I am excited to try D2 in the morning! My plan is to train MWF mornings, hopefully the weather stays nice in Houston for the next 9 weeks! I intend on running a 5k on Jan 30, so I've got a few weeks buffer to get up to speed.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Lisa

Re: 5K in 9 Weeks Start 11/1

Hi! Wondering if I could join y'all....

I'm 28 years old and have never really had the need to exercise in my life! However, I gained 50 lbs while pregnant with my son, who is now 18 months old. I have been trying off and on to get back into shape since April this year, when I joined the YMCA. I found the C25k program and I think having someone TELL me what to do and having a group hold me accountable will help! I downloaded a week 1 podcast (I am using Suz's podcasts...her music is more my style...hip hop/pop...anybody else using hers?). I found with the music and the cues telling me when to run and when to walk, it was not bad at all! I had to use a treadmill at the YMCA, so I would have childcare for my son. I ended up doing about 2 miles in 30 minutes. My feet are hurting though...I need new shoes!

Re: 5K in 9 Weeks Start 11/1

Hi everyone, didn't work out or run today. Tuesday is usually my off day will be back at tomorrow.

A few of you have mentioned podcasts, are you searching for something specific on ITunes?  I currently have a "treadmill" list of songs that I put together but I'm always looking for new stuff.

Re: 5K in 9 Weeks Start 11/1

Hi all

I don't know how to put my stats at the bottom like you Tans. BTW my name is Agnes and I've never ran before. I've played a lot of sports but always avoided the training runs etc...(I'm quite stroppy and willful :) )

I did 1.66 miles in 30 minutes and used the Carli's podcasts from runningintoshape.com. They were awesome because they kept me focused as all I had to concentrate on was putting one leg in front of the other and she told me when to walk and run. And the music was modern and kept me going, except when it was a fast one for the run and I tried to match the beat ( a definite DO NOT DO)

I discovered muscles I never knew I had, especially calf muscles and everything seems to jar and jiggle when I ran lol (you all wanted to know that ay?) But I made it through and I think with the podcasts I could actually keep this up as long as I don't try and run faster and then can barely continue lol

W1D1     2.1miles     35 mins     harder at the beginning then the end

W1D2     3.26kms     33mins     much harder & calves are sore

W1D3     3.02kms     30mins     better but then I ran slower

W2D1     2.08miles    30mins    runs are long but walks are great

W2D2     3.28kms     30mins     getting better at pacing
