Re: So do walkers just not talk to each other?

Hope you had a great 5K yesterday- did you dress up?  There were some crazy costumes in the zumba class I attended yesterday- it was really fun!  I think I am going to go back every Saturday.  I really enjoyed the yoga as well!  I have to do some cross training due to my shin splints!

Re: So do walkers just not talk to each other?

Hi all...sorry I've been gone so long.  Between my business and my Team in Training coaching, I've been swamped!  But I've been reading the messages and I'm so glad that you are all keeping on with your walking!  I've recently been told that I'm going to be one of the coaches at the Disney World Half and Full marathons on January 9th and 10th.  Is anybody going? I've been following the discussion about gus and gels....I use the gus but I'm not going to tell you I love them! I do like Cliff Shots Razz the best. However, there are other alternatives...like the jelly beans or luna moons.  We walkers are out there so long that it's really important to find ways to get the nutrition you need.  I can't eat solids, but raisins, bananas, energy bars etc also work if your stomach can take them.  Even more important is hydrating and taking sports drink and salt (if you tend to sweat a lot).  Neal....PLEASE send photos of your grandbabbies!  And Susan....you are awesome as always!

Re: So do walkers just not talk to each other?

Hi Mendy, no i didn't dress up, but i was surrounded by witches, and ballerina's. My times was about 1:30 i was expecting it to be freezing, and it actually got really hot. Unfortunally i made myself heat sick. I also got a sunburn. I am glad i went though. I was hurting when i got home, but i wasn't sore this morning. I did my two miles to work this evening. These walks are making me nervous about if i can push for more than three miles. But i don't want to be a downer! Gotta think positive right? Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Re: So do walkers just not talk to each other?

Tina, glad to have you back. Congrats on your 5k. Sometimes AZ weather can be tricky this time of the year. Jean, a BIG shout out to you for your selection as walking coach for Disney. Mendy, welcome as a FT Walker, your legs will thank you,  and I wanted to try Zumba, it looks pretty cool. I tried Salsa dancing but instead of the normal one step behind, i was two. i gave up after 15 minutes. Just not coordinated that way. Mandi, Snow? Yikes! That means it won't be to long before it comes to Ohio. Coleen, take care of your legs, you have the 10 miler on the 15th. Susan, is this the same race? You guys could hook up. Bonnie, great time on your 10K. Where's Savannah?

Re: So do walkers just not talk to each other?

Hi Friends!  I am hopefully back and ready to recommit to being healthy.  I let work stress and Halloween get the best of me.  I had great plans of being good and exercising, but instead I fell face first into bags of Halloween candy and hoped that would help me feel better.  Guess what?  It didn’t.  So I am back to doing what I know I should have been all along.

As far as the work situation things have mellowed out.  I was so stressed about it that I decided to go to my boss’ boss and ask for clarification.  I told him what my boss told me and he just rolled his eyes.  Apparently he had received a fax from the Chairman of the Board asking him to look at a resume of a very unqualified person.  Somehow when my boss heard this information he decided to tell me that they were probably going to have to hire someone for my position because the Chairman wanted her hired.  So basically he blew it out of proportion and decided to tell me so I could stress.  Oh, what a wonderful Boss!

I did manage to get out on Saturday and do 3 miles, or as I like to say, my own personal 5K.  I was able to do about 2.5 miles yesterday too.  So nothing too impressive, but at least it is doing something – which is opposite of what I have been doing lately.

Tina – Sounds like you had a fun race.  My sister did a Halloween half marathon and they had the coolest T-shirts.  She was sick, but said it was still fun.

Jean – I won’t be at the Disney world half in 2010, but I am considering 2011.  I am planning on Disneyland in 2010.  I know a lot of people that are going to be there though.  It will be so much fun!

Mendy – I hope you are feeling better!  Take care of yourself.

Colleen – Welcome to the group.

Neal – Glad you had a good time playing Grandpa.  I would love to see pictures.

Susan – 104 miles is impressive!  I think I made about 30 last month – but there is a goal to do much better this month.  Sorry you are having trouble with your leg.  I had Tendonitis in my Achilles a few years ago – the Dr. got fed up with me not resting and actually put me in a boot!  So take it easy and hopefully it won’t turn into anything big.  I think I am signing up for a 5K on Thanksgiving.  A 10K might be more fun – it is at least a little more of a challenge than a 5K – but my sister-in-law wants to do a 5K and my husband wants to do it with her.  The problem, it is 50 miles from our house, but right next door to my SIL.  Oh well.  Who needs to sleep in anyway?

Re: So do walkers just not talk to each other?

Well, it decided to let me post today. I wonder what the secret is? Anyhow, Mandi, glad to see you back walking and getting rid of your stress. Guess your boss won't get any "warm fuzzies" on Bosses Day. It's easy to get into the sweet trap. I preach sacrifice, but I've had

three BIG chocolate chip cookies in the past 2 days. Do as I say, not as I do. Umm, I think that was my mantra with my kids. Guess that why the Lord's there to remind us, we're only human, and He's not. And He can forgive us and put us back on track. Thank God!  Susan, you and Coleen have the 10 milers coming up, and then you have a 10K. You go girl. Also if your Doc won't work w/you, get a new one. Seriously!  Find one that knows about Sports Med, they are out there, especially the young ones, who are runners or walkers. FYI, I have a 4 miler Thansgiving Morning, a 5K(Jingle Bell) for Arthritis on 12/5, and my last one for the year, a 4 miler on 12/13, The Holiday Run. I love the last one, 'cus I won the Walking Division for men the past two years. Some of the ladies are faster. Like I say, " I keep company with fast women". Till the great Blog Master lets me post again, keep in touch.

Re: So do walkers just not talk to each other?

Sorry to have been away for so long - I have no excuses - just have not visited the site in awhile.  Okay, you can give me those 40 lashes now!

The weather here in the Hudson Valley of NY has been BEAUTIFUL the last 3-4 days.  I have made it back to our wonderful Walkway over the Hudson for three more walks of over 3 miles (across once and back), and also have been to the golf course a couple more times, since the days are dwindling for that activity as well.  I count that as walking - since I NEVER take a cart - then that is not golf!

There is an exciting event I am participating in and if I mentioned it before, sorry for being repetitive - there is a 5K being held at Yankee Stadium to raise funds for cancer research this Sunday.  I am planning on doing this as a walk-run as I progress to running these races, but all runners and walkers are welcome.  I have raised a little bit of money, but that wasn't the only goal - the chance to run on the field of the WORLD CHAMPION New York Yankees was reason enough to join!  But I do also like that once the stadium fees were deducted, the rest of the registration fee went to cancer research as well.

Sounds like others are doing well and/or have been away from here like me.  Take care everyone, and if anyone wants to sponsor me, feel free to e-mail me. ljs_rhit_ccps@yahoo.com

Re: So do walkers just not talk to each other?

HI NEAL

HOW ARE THINGS GOING WITH YOU?

I HAVE A QUESTION I NOTICED ALL THE PEOPLE ON THIS SITE DO DIFFERENT WALKS IN SO MANY CITIES.

AND I READ YOU ARE GOING TO BE QUITE BUSY FOR THE NEXT MONTH AND A HALF.

WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY IS DOES WHAT YOU OR ANYONE ELSE DO COST MONEY TO ENTER?

I JOINED THE TEAMINTRAINING IN JULY AND I PAID $100.

AND I HAD TO RAISE $2500.00 FOR THE EVENT I PARTICIPATED IN WHICH WAS IN OCT.

THE EVENT I'M DOING ON NOV.15 ALL I PAID WAS $30.

I WOULD LOVE TO DO MORE EVENTS IN THE UP COMING MONTHS BUT IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY.

Re: So do walkers just not talk to each other?

Hey everyone!

Collenn: Welcome to the group! I am actually in AZ. Thanks for the reminder I NEED new shoes, I just haven't gotten around to finding a store in my area. I know you didn't specifically ask me, but most races are for charities so you have to raise some money. Not all of them have a big price tag though. Just look around. A lot of walks and races don't mind if you don't meet their goals of fund raising. I try and get different family and friends to pitch in for my walks, it's all for charity. A couple of the more high profile races come with the big price tag, I haven't done one of those yet. Be sure to look closely at wether you are fundraising or they are asking for an entrance fee.

RHIGT: Yankee Stadium?! WOW that sounds awesome, make sure to let us know how that goes.

Susan: 104miles, that's amazing. I completely agree with neal about your doctor also. Make sure he is working with you. How did that zumba class go?

Neal: LOL congrats on you last two years of first place in the walk you mentioned.

Manda: Great to hear you are doing better, sometimes life just get's the better of us. Make sure to keep us posted, you know we will cheer you on whenever you need it.

Jean: Good to hear from you

Mendy: I have also been trying to cross train with some yoga, it's actually pretty fun. I was amazed I could get into it. How do you feel about all the different cross training so far?

Ok well I guess it's time for the report one me. Which isn't so great. I am still walking to and from work, which is two miles each way. Other than that I haven't really been out. I have the time, but again my motivation seems to be hybernating. I am waiting for it to come back. I have to admit some little indulgences. Susan you will appreciate this the most. I ate in-n-out Wednesday as a special treat. Sadly I had to cancel my plans for the half marathon in January. I am determined to start training again soon, I want to be ready in case another opportunity presents itself. I hope everyone is doing great!!
