Am I trained well enough to run in a Marathon on 11/1?

I have been training for 5+ months with the Galloway group and got up to 23 miles on October 3 (4 weeks prior to my proposed marathon date).  I injured my shoulder on October 9 and had to take 2 weeks off running and wasn't able to complete my 26 mile training run.  I just started running again last week with my longest run being only 5 miles.  Would it be safe/wise for me to run 26.2 on Nov. 1?  Any advice would be appreciated!! This is my first marathon. Thanks.

If you have already run 23 in training you are OK running wise to cover a marathon distance - I have never heard of any plan other than one for a professional runner that does more that 22 in training - many peak at 20 miles

Only you and your doctor can say if your shoulder is healed enough - it`s cutting it fine but of you have a good sports doc or chiropractor that knows how to use the specialised sports tape they can tape up your shoulder for extra support

You should be fine as far as the running goes.  If you're shoulder is ready to go, then you're set.

Spicegeek - several of the Galloway plans go to 26 miles (sometimes more).

Just one more mile, if only you could fly.

I'd say 23 miles two weeks ago is plenty to finish a marathon, my only concern for you is if you are experiencing any pain.

You'll have no problem.

I ran my first marathon after taking off for 3 weeks due to an ITB injury.  During the race I negotiated with myself that I would never run another marathon.  156 marathons later and my brain still hasn't figured out what happened.

Carry some pain medicine with you and take if needed.  Just remember that you will be dehydrated so don't take too much.

Avoid the urge to go out too fast.  Start at 30 seconds per mile slower than your planned pace for the first 5 miles or so then kick it into gear.  Have a great race.

Congratulations.  Way to keep at it!  I usually consider 50-55 to be warm for a marathon, except that rain makes it seem colder. We have to run with what we are given.  It's time to sign up for your next marathon.
