Re: W1D1 October 17 or 18- who's beginning?

W3D5

Skipped yesterday because of my knee being stiff. My new orthodics (one of my old ones went missing in action) are being made but won't be here for another week or two.

I ran tonight, but I was so lost in thought I forgot to stop running and start walking. Big mistake. My knee is really letting me know about it now... Have ice and tomorrow is my rest day so hopefully I'll be in better shape by Monday.

i understand you ... i get in a zone when i am running ..  but i still the reminders !!

and i do wonder how i would go on the road - as i run on a treadmill only ... but i actually have no intention of running outside or finishing even a 5k race !!

it is just fitness for me and get the best value of of my 30 - 5o mins !!

basically lazy person !!

beachbum I'm sorry to hear that you're having leg pain. I'm sure you're stretching properly and all that. This link is what I've been using to help me get over a few of my pains.

Re: W1D1 October 17 or 18- who's beginning?

Finished W2D2 on Friday in the pouring down rain...I got absolutely drenched...my socks got soaked (I wore my Pumas due to blistering) and I struggled to get up a hill. When I got back, though, I knew that I was now in it for the long haul...if I was able to complete that, I can do anything.

So...last night, I went out in the cold (it was 40-ish) and finished up Week 2...I actually made my last interval a little longer because I wanted to reach a light pole...

On to Week 3!

Re: W1D1 October 17 or 18- who's beginning?

Well I haven't posted in a few days because I don't get around to the computer much on the weekends... too much to do around the house to get distracted by the internet!  At my last post, I was a little bit worried about starting week 3, but it turns out I was freaking out for no reason.  I did W3D1 on Saturday and W3D2 this morning.  Much like the others have said, during the first 90 secs I thought there was no way I was going to make it but then about halfway through I started feeling much better.  And actually, I ran a little bit longer on the second 3 minute section for both days.  I am starting to have a little bit of knee pain after I'm done, not during, which is weird to me.  I'll have to do some googling to see what's going on there.  It's in a specific area in both knees, so we'll see.  Right now, I'm just happy to be in Week 3 and finishing the runs

Oh and another note on the measurements topic... my scale hasn't budged a tenth of a pound in a full week now, but the inches are falling off.  Another half inch each off the waist and hips since my last measurment post.  I'm so glad I started measuring, otherwise I might be frustrated more about the scale thing.

Good job everybody... keep on chuggin'!!

Re: W1D1 October 17 or 18- who's beginning?

Did my strength training work out and then W2D1 today.  Today was a toughie, my times running were doubled and walking time was halved.  But I got through it!  I think what made it tougher is I didn't eat much today, so I think I wasn't fueled properly for today's workout.  I'll do better on that bit next time.  I haven't checked my measurements again, I was a BAAAAAD girl over the weekend!  And I don't care because it was a long time since I had pizza!  LOL!  Besides, I'd rather eat what I want (not always a bad thing) and run harder.

jane:  Nothing wrong at all with the goal of just wanting to be able to run.  You don't have to run a 5K, or outdoors, or anything else in order to be a runner.  Your health doesn't know the difference.

rcktgirl:  have you checked out the Aches and Pains articles here?  Here's one: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_5/194.shtml.  And WTG on the running!  It always nice to look down at your watch and go, "Oh!  Whoops, overshot that one!" and NOT be crawling and begging for mercy.

WTG everybody on your runs through rains, cold, and whatever else the weather brought you!

Re: W1D1 October 17 or 18- who's beginning?

Best I can tell from my research is that 1) I need to stretch a whole lot more and 2) I need to strengthen my quads.  I believe both of those because I do skimp on the before stretching then try to stretch throughout the day to avoid horrible soreness the next day. Never thought that it could cause problems with the knees.  I'm not a big morning person and it's nothing short of a miracle that I've been getting up early to run at all, so in my mind it's hard to get up even earlier so that I can stretch more!  Also, I definitely believe I need to strengthen the quads because after my very first day of running, holy cow the inner part of the quad muscles were on strike.  It hurt to climb stairs even.  But the other parts of the quad were fine... because I play hockey!  It makes sense because the part of the muscle that hurt so bad in the beginning leads straight down to where my knee hurts!  Guess I'll have to see over the rest of the C25K how those improvements affect the knee pain.

Re: W1D1 October 17 or 18- who's beginning?

I'll tell you what helped me as far as stretching:  for the workout itself, I first get in a good warm up walk for 5 minutes.  Then I stretch, then run.  I stretch a bit afterwards, but not as much.  I'm usually kind of tired and wobbly right after the run.  Later on that night I do some more stretching while watching TV, and doing it very slowly.  Maybe that's worth a try?  I used to have much tighter hamstrings, so I feel your pain about imbalances!

Re: W1D1 October 17 or 18- who's beginning?

Beachbum..Thanks for the encouragement..I wish you luck with your 5 minute run.

A hard part of this 5 k training program is taking the days off in between training days. Last week I did 3 days in a row..and paid for it with back pain.  This week I am going to pace myself.

W5-D2 today..I did it..today on the treadmill and increased my speed to 3.8 (I know it is slow but is is progress for me)
