But I'll post anyways as it may be an encouragement to other newbies (like me) to get on board and encourage each other.
I'm now two weeks and change into the new program. I'm not sure I'll ever LOVE swimming, but it is good exercise and there are lots of things that I can challenge myself with to keep it somewhat interesting. I miss being outside in the cool air running through the park as the sun comes up, but oh well.
Anyhow, I'm up to swimming 1650 meters stopping only long enough to make my very poor turns at either end of a 25 m pool. I will probably push further once a week, but I'll likely leave my daily workout at 1650 for a while. It feels ok, not great yet. I certainly haven't mastered bilateral breathing although I spent several laps focused only on that yesterday.
I watched the TI video yesterday for the first time... Wow, I just can not imagine being able to swim that way. The idea of recovering to sweet spot just looks like I'd end up drowning!!! I have tried drill one several times and it's all I can do to stay afloat! I am getting better at it though. Maybe some day I'll be a TI swimmer, LOL!
PedDoc:
I feel your pain. I also am a runner and due to knee problems thinking of taking up swimming. A little nervious though because the most experience I have is playing in the pool with my kids. I have no clue about proper form, breathing and what ever else may be involved. Thought I would venture over here to get some basic questiones answered. I must say it is a lot quiter over here. I assume there are not as many newbies though. Running all you need is a pair of shoes and if all else fails starting walking. Swimming isn't so easy. There seems to be a lot more involved.
I'm also looking at the bike. Although it doesn't give me the same good feeling as running. With biking I can ride on the same trails I used to run and even wear a lot of the same clothes. Its also something I can take my children on. We tried a family ride this summer and my 7 yr old did over 14 miles with no problem. I pull my 3 yr old in one of those buggy things and he just loves it.
Enjoy your new found sport and good luck
