Anyone do their long runs during the week? Weekends are just too full lately. [/B]<HR>

Martinjames I have been been doing my "long run" (currently 10/11 miles) mid week for a couple of weeks due to week-end family committments and also a couple of short Sunday races.
I'm (unbelievably) far from being an expert but I'm hoping it wont do any harm provided I move aback to week-end in good time before race day.
Any more informed contrary opinions would be gratefully received though !

Re: Spring Marathon Trainers Thread 12/3/06
Unfortunately, work got in the way of my training last week and I wasn't able to run at all from Monday to Friday.

Saturday: I ran a PR in a 5k 18:09

Sunday: 21 miles at slightly slower that marathon pace.

I am not real positive about my chances for sub 3 in January as I haven't been able to get in as much running during the week the past month as I hoped. One good thing is that I have been getting my long runs in having done 19 or more miles on each of the last six sundays.

Re: Spring Marathon Trainers Thread 12/3/06
Martinjames - I typically do both - Wednesday and Sunday are 20s. Wednesday I run easy and Sunday try to do a progressive.

I will start Spring training soon - Maybe January 1st. Last week turned out to be 77 miles on 7 runs. 5 x .75 mile@ I pace - Tuesday is the only workout of note. I have not decided on a Spring training plan as of yet. I think goal # 1 has to be "Lose weight" 35# aught to do it, then I can worry about getting faster again. So I think it will include less running and a lot of cross training January - March.

Keep up the good training.

Re: Spring Marathon Trainers Thread 12/3/06
After two weeks off, trying to shake a groin strain, I know that my PR goal for Miami is unrealistic. Went for a test run yesterday and there is still some soreness, so I am going to take another week. Considering the marathon is less than two months away, I'll be happy if I can get under 3 hours, but I'll probably just take it easy and try to enjoy the ride. A little frustrating, but part of the process, I guess.
