Re: Monster Bash Triathlon 2009/Monster Bash Kids Triathlon 2009 Reviews

This event was VERY poorly managed, to say the least.  I'm sure that the event organizer O2 Racing didn't intend for the little boy to get hit by a car, or for the other kids to lose their way on the busy roadway, but they sure did not plan well for the safety of their participants.  I hope that the little boy will be okay.

And that was just the beginning.  Many kids and adults were losing their way due to lack of route markings.  Surprise PD did not provide for safety ie blocking traffic, keeping cars out of the bike routes, etc.  Event coordinator did not ensure the route was clear before starting the race. Nor did she hold the pre-race meeting that was outlined in the race info. Beyond terrible!!

Will not be participating in anymore O2 racing events!  A one star rating is generous.

VERY UNSAFE and unorganzized!  Not only were 4 children LOST on the bike course, but one was hit and many adults had no clue where to run due to lack of markings or volunteers.  Also, the organizers were very rude to participants asking questions.  This gave many newbies a bad taste in their mouths for triathlons.  Traffic was barely stopped in enough time for me to come in for the bike course and I was extremely close to being HIT by a car while on the run just before reaching the finish line!  We paid good money to be safe and not have not worry while we are racing...I can't imagine one of  my children being in that position.

Wow...this was something else!  Not only was it an expensive and disorganized event, but I thought the folks that organzied it were extremely rude and the volunteers weren't much more pleasant.  We froze to death as the event was extremely delayed and everyone was already on the pool deck in minimal clothing.  I will not be doing an event oraganized by O2 until they get it together.

I agree with everyone else's views of this race.  I've been to many triathlons, and this was by far the most poorly organized race I've ever seen.  The kids had no idea where to go on the bike, and many little ones were crying.  Luckily, my daughter did not get lost, but if I was a parent of one of the little ones who did get lost, I would be livid.  It is unacceptable to have children out on a course that is not well-marked and that doesn't have adequate adult supervision.  If they needed more volunteers out on the course directing the kids, they should have asked the parents.  I'm sure most of us would have been happy to help.  The event was expensive and poorly run.  I wonder if there is a way to report this to USAT as I'm sure they would not want to be affiliated with an event like this.  We will not be participating in any more O2 races in the future.

This event was very unorganized.  Standing in the cold for 2 hours waiting to start the duathlon was ridiculous.  None of the people helping with the event had maps for the run or bike. In addition, I'm not sure why we were even given timing chips...the duathlon had no split times...just 1 overall time. I could have done that with my own watch and cut down the cost of the event.  Lastly, the website said the results would be available the following day...they may have been but I had to email the organizers to find out where they were posted because there was no link under "results" on the Monster Bash site.  Needless to say, I don't think I will be participating in anymore O2 Racing events in the near future.

Disappointed that the bike and run times were combined.  Not surprised though given the lack of overall organization of the event.  Had to stop for traffic on the bike portion of the race (completely once and almost full stop a 2nd time).  Run route was not well marked especially toward the end....did not have anyone ahead of me to follow at the time so did my best to guess the right way back to the finish line.  I would not do this race again.

Re: Monster Bash Triathlon 2009/Monster Bash Kids Triathlon 2009 Reviews

I just found out that a 5 year old boy was HIT BY A CAR during the event.  He was doing the bike riding portion and someone hit him!!  He broke his pelvis and I met this poor boy at the doctor's office.  The mother can't press charges "because it is on private property".  But I am sure this is not easy for the family.  I don't even know their names but is anyone organizing something to help this family??  I understand that the father of the injured boy is stationed in Egypt so he can't even be there to help!  Why wasn't this on the news???

I hope someone from USAT reads these posts and takes action against 02 Racing this weekend has left a huge scar on the triathlon image. I emailed USAT the day after my daughter was lost on the course and all I got was that they would talk to the director. The director needs to be banned from running events in the future and 02 racing should be held accountable for the little boys injury. Please do not attend any events sponsored by 02 Racing for the sake of the little boy whom was injured while in the direct care of the director and staff of 02 Racing.

Re: Monster Bash Triathlon 2009/Monster Bash Kids Triathlon 2009 Reviews

This was a bad experience all together. While our kids were ok I was extremely concerned about the kid who got injured and finally read from the posts above what happened to him. Hit by a car on the course????????

My personal story is that I was simply misdirected on this very disorganized race, on the bike piece.  I had not completed the 2nd bike loop and figured out just in time that I was about to pass the finish line for the final duathlon run. Eventhough it was said to me that my time would be adjusted, never heard back from anyone. I was treated like a martian by the organizer when I reported what happened to me at the end of the race. Not a caring word, just a "following the course is your responsibility!!!"  Hey - even when someone is pointing for your to go another direction on the course?????
