Friday Running, Time to kick it in gear

Oh my, I feel like I need a RR just for my run this morning.  I was suppose to run an easy trail, the one I will be running in a couple of weeks with Immer but the lead guy couldn't run and I ended up with running with Justin.  Justin is a young kid who works the tech support department that mountain bikes and skydives as hobbies.  Oh yea, he was a walk on for the Perdue track team while in school who’s 5K time is somewhere around 16 minutes.  We started off at 5 am so we used headlamps.  Justin is familair with this area so I let him lead and he took us down some trails that were not what I expected.  I thought  to myself, what in the world did I get myself into.  It wasn't until 5 miles later than I found out that we were not running the simple trail loop I thought we were running but instead part of the Mountain Mist 50K course (the same race I signed up for in January, labeled as the toughest trail race in Alabama.  Again, I questioning my sanity for that move.)  The last 3.5 miles were part of the simple loop I expected and enjoyed the sunrise view on top of the mountain.  All in all a good 8+ trail run, I know I need a lot of specific trail training before January.

Next up:  Recover from the Holidays 50K(12/31), Mountain Mist 50K trail run 1/23/10, CMM April

Only 10 miles for me today. We are going to Fort Worth later this afternoon to run the marathon on Sunday.

A nice slow 10 miler for me, 9:50 pace, felt great.  Abs and weights and life is good.

Shawn, that sounds like and incredible run, I am so jealous!

I fell apart big time on my run today. This week I have been totally exhausted. On Wed there was a really pathetic moment where I was in my office and thirsty. A liter of water was within arms reach but I was so tired I honestly couldn't get myself to move my arm to get the water. And I sat there thinking "I'm so thirsty. But I'm so tired. But I'm so thirsty." Yesterday I took a 2 hour nap then slept for 10 hours. I think my peak running weekend plus Halloween plus submitting a major manuscript and leading a three hour graduate seminar this week totally took it out of me. My goal was to run 5 today but I ran 2, walking at least a half a mile. No energy. I actually contemplated sitting on the sidewalk for a bit around mile 1.5 and only didn't because it was really cold out. Thankfully I'm working from home today so I want to get some neuroscience done and then hopefully I can rest the rest of the day. I hope everyone has better runs than I did!

I do today what you won't, so tomorrow I do what you can't.

Great run Shawn.  I miss those trail runs!  I have one scheduled in a few weeks.

Great job Omi!

Have a fun race, Parvarneh!

Kat you deserve a break!  Go take a long nap, ok?

Just got back from a nice fall run.  It's gorgeous out.  4.5 miles.

Rest today.  I am driving over to the western part of the state for my daughter's last High School Cross Country meet (State Championship).  I am starting to get sad realizing she is close to being done with high school and off to college.  She is ranked 3rd, I just hope she runs up to her potential.  Both boys and girls teams are ranked 3rd also.  My son is the teams 4th or 5th runner.  Hope everyone has a great week-end, sorry for venting above.

Re: Friday Running, Time to kick it in gear

My scheduled Thursday run had to be rescheduled to today because we had our cat put to sleep yesterday . However, getting out there on such a gorgeous fall day -- 56 degrees and full sun -- was salve for the soul. Did a short 6 mile tempo run, 2 miles warm up, 2 miles tempo @ 8:00 pace, 2 miles cool down.

Today I committed to running the Shamrock in March so I have something to push towards. I know, I know, I'm cheating on my beloved MCM after saying I likely wouldn't run marathon distance for any other race... but I got antsy .

Kat, I'm going to sound like your mom, but will you please, please look after yourself.  That means - take a break from exercising, maybe a day or two, sleep a lot, eat really really really healthy, sleep some more, read a trashy book, sit on your couch and have a good glass of wine.  I think after a day or two of this you should be back to your normal self.  You can't drive yourself this hard without running yourself down.  Remember H1N1, your immune system will weaken with your going this hard.

I 2nd that notion

Thanks guys. I am so on the same page. I can feel myself on the verve of crashing so I'm trying to take care of myself. Ben made me chicken soup from scratch two nights ago- this recipe is amazing and it takes HOURS- because I told him how beat to he!! I was a few days ago. He is a saint, my best friend, and knows me way better than I know myself. I'm about to hit happy hour but the plan is to make it an early night. I'm supposed to run 14 with my friend tomorrow and I'm going to tell him that I'm going to bag it early if I'm not feeling it. I just hate being so close to JFK and blowing my taper after so many months of training.

Sweetheart, your fitness level will not suffer if you let 2 days worth of running go.  Just eat the soup, Have some wine at happy hours, enjoy it, make it an early night, sleep until you wake up, have a big breakfast, read the paper, and do nothing.  Have more soup tomorrow night, and don't run again on Sunday.  Start up slowly on Monday, and the JFK run will be the better for it.

Re: Friday Running, Time to kick it in gear

Late post, for some reason my computer at home isn't letting me post anything on the board.  Ran 4 miles for first run since the marathon. Felt good to be back out on the road. Between recovering from the marathon and recovering from illness life sucked for a couple of weeks there.
