Hector,
Again, thanks for starting this thread! It's been fun reading other people's stories of encouragement.
I'm glad to read your training is going well. Go for it!

Many years and pounds ago (20+/100+) I was participating in sprint tri's then Olympic distance. In fact, at my first sprint tri, they still had changing rooms - LOL. I ALWAYS came in last or near last in my events, but I still enjoyed the experience. But time, family obligations, work, and lots of food have brought me to where I am today. Mid-July, I peaked at 265# and started having BP issues. So I tried portion control and walking, but I only lost 6 lbs in 2 months. So I knew I had to get back on a training program, and I started C25K in mid-Sept. to regain my ability to run 3 miles without walking. I've got a 5K 10/17 to walk/run, and a 5K 11/28 to run straight thru. I've lost 6 lbs in 3 weeks, but it includes double workouts of the C25K program and swimming twice a week. I like the multi-sport training, because it provides variety and lets you workout many different muscles, without the pounding of running all of the time.
My ultimate goal is to complete my first Tri of my "Second Life" at the IronGirl Sprint Triathlon in Atlanta at the end of June 2010 (Anyone else??). Hopefully, I will have lost enough weight to make it feasible. I just started cycling at the gym, because those are the only bikes that will handle my butt & my gut. I was amazed at how slow I am on my initial bike workouts and I could only complete 20 mins on my first attempt. I will gradually build up my endurance and speed on these indoor bikes, until I lose more weight so that my 10-speed is more comfortable. Eventually I'll even try spinning. I probably won't do any outside bike training until at least January. It's tough fitting in all these workouts without getting too exhausted, but things will get better as I get faster and gain more endurance.
So Hector, just start working on it and you will find it to be a very satisfying experience, and a great way to get fit. You can research for a Sprint Triathlon in your area in the spring, and adjust your multi-sport training to achieve that target date.

For a bit of inspiration, or insight, check out the interview I did with season 2 Biggest Loser winner Matt Hoover, who just got done with the Hawaii Ironman. Both interviews are over at the website http://www.everymantri.com

I had a different problem, I smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day for 23 years. I quit 2 1/2 years ago and have done 9 sprints. I am hooked. this year I am hoping to do a olympic and possibly a 1/2 iron. A little different problem, but what ever you do don't give up. these are fun, you will meet new freinds and best of all you will live a healthier lifesyle. If I can do it anyone can do it. Good luck and keep your head up.
