NYT Article: The Human Body Is Built for Distance

Awesome Times article I wanted to share. Follows on the heels of "Born to Run" and is http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/27/health/27well.html?_r=4&em

What kind of form drills or deliberate biomechanical tweaks do to take to make sure you're running "correctly" or naturally to avoid these injuries inherant to distance running?

Also, thought provocing video on persistance hunting by tribesman of the San on the Kalahari Desert of Africa. Enjoy!

Couldn't read the NYT thing, but the video was fascinating.

EDIT: Perhaps this link will work better for people.

Re: NYT Article: The Human Body Is Built for Distance

My natural running technique is ChiRunning. It's very much a "less is more," relax-and-go-with-the-flow approach... very old thinking applied in a new way. No extraneous motions or effort, wear the most minimal shoes you can handle, never heel-strike, etc. LOVE LOVE LOVE it.  Oh -- and I also don't think injuries are "inherent" to distance running -- only to the inefficient and unnatural way that people have been taught to run in the last century, with big pillows on their feet.

Interesting....I have been hearing a lot about barefoot running lately.  I have been having shin splints and hip flexor pain for a while now and am wondering if ditching my stability shoes will help.  I have a pair of hardly-worn Nike Free ID flats sitting at home but have been scared to try running in them as they have hardly any support or padding, but it might just be what the Dr ordered!
