Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

I just started my Couch to 5K training program today. I wish you the best of luck in your program. I know it's difficult. But I am told that after some time it will all become second nature.  Hang in there.

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

Before we call time of death on this thread, I am bringing out the paddles.  Speaking of paddles I thought I was going to have to use them when I ran my first 5k this past Friday (tried logging in all weekend but there was an error each time) so I ran it in 39:58 still a little sore but I was so pumped that I was able to run the whole way without stopping, I also ran a little faster then I normally do so I think that is why I am still feeling it today lol. I hadn't run for two weeks before it so I was a little nervous before hand, but there was great support and it was a night run and the roads were all closed down so it was pretty amazing.  I am still going to finish my last two weeks and then move toward the OHR.  I am also wanting to get back into triathlons so that is where my focus will be.  What about everyone else?  For those that are done with C25K how are the workouts coming?  What is everyone on?  Do we want to to start a new thread to get everyone motivated again?  Let's get this thing revived!

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

WOW- i can't IMAGINE running a 5K after not running for 2 weeks AND doing it in such a great time! good for you!

I am SUPPOSED to be starting the OHR- but honest to god every time i try and start something happens. Yesterday I cracked my head on the mailbox and have had a lot of pain every since- just an awful headache that i can't get rid of- but i guess seeing as it did happen yesterday- a headache is normal. So i'm still planning on starting OHR- as soon as i can I've also been doing the 200 crunches- just finished week 6 and i'm now on week 2 of the 100 push ups- mind you i'm doing my pushups against the wall- cheating but at least i'm doing it

Coyotecoach20:  It would be great to keep the tread going. It would also be nice if this site allowed us to log on.  I find it kind of frustrating when for days it won't let you log on.

Would like to work on getting my time down a bit.  Have looked up some different stretches to help me.  There is a group of muscles that run across my right hip that tighten up after my runs and are causing me some discomfort.  Have to set up a massage here this week to get it worked on.  Went for an hour walk today just to get out and move.  This past week and next the weather looks to be very beautiful, mid 40-50's.

Congratulations on running your first 5K, you are now in the 1%.  How does it feel?

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

Oh man if I hit my head on a mailbox I'm sure there would be a headache for days!  I hope it lessens some, I hate headaches they are the worst.  I know how you feel with starting your program that's why I haven't been able to run life just gets in the way but I am trying to allow some time to get in.

It feels great to be in the 1% finally!  Would have felt even better if 1-people weren't finishing it in under 20 minutes (that's just so fast!) and 2- I didn't have a student (bless her little heart) telling me wow this is the first time that I can say my walk is as fast as someone's jog, haha.  Oh well it happens.  Hoping to get in some running tomorrow morning.

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

Last week I had a friend visiting from across the US, whom I haven't seen in 18 years!   So, although I wasn't able to get on the internet, I did somewhat keep my commitment to fitness by walking at a brisk pace with her those days she was here.  She was happy to take time to do that, as she had been wanting to begin for a while.

Then I got back on my running on Saturday, and have kept it up.

But, I want to say "WAY TO GO!" to LulaB and Gomommy11 for the 5K victories!    It's such a great thing to hear that you both fulfilled your goals and will go on to do more.

Sorry to hear you were sick, Marcerella.   The week before last I had a fever for several days.   But all that is behind me, and I ran a lot stronger and faster this morning.

Nice to see you're still around, too, Coyotecoach.

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

Hey Everybody!!! I know that a lot of you on this thread actually finshed the 5K.  Congrats again!   I also know that some of you used my couch to the 5K podcast.  I decided to add a "Carli's Couch to 5K" Wall of Fame to my website, to help people see that it's really possible.   If you used my podcast and would like to be a part of it, just send me a pic, (Preferably one of you crossing the finish line, or at least your w/ your race number on), and I'll add your pic to the WALL OF FAME!  (p.s. the page is not up yet, but should be after I recieve some more pics)

My email address is carli@runningintoshape.com

Thanks! and hope to see you on the My wall of Fame!

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

Just a quick note to to say hello and to encourage the group not to let the thread die. I haven't been posting because the site hasn't been letting me. I can say that I have taken about a week off from running to let my patellar tendonitis die down and might give it a few more days. I had been running about 40 minutes consistently up to that point. I am also down 14 lbs. in the last few weeks due to the S. Beach diet. It's a new way of looking at food and it seems to be working for me.

Keep on truckin' everybody and let's see some new posts soon!

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

I'm here, I'm here, but man has it been TOUGH getting on.  Most of the time I am able to log on but it won't let me post.  Beyond aggrivatine.

Also aggrivating has been my progress. My hips were really giving me a tough time, so I've let them rest for a few weeks and feel much better.  I keep up the cardio, however, with spinning classes. I have a physical in two weeks and plan to talk w/my doc about my creakiness.  Hopefully I'll get sent to a sports med doc who can tell me what's wrong, what I need to fix, so I can continue. I really miss running with the pack.

Glad to see everyone!

Kate- I feel your pain. I have hip problems (well all joint problems- waiting to get into a specalist- been waiting over a year- frickin Canadian health care- but i digress) too. I thought that running wouldmake all of my joint problems flare up- but i've noticed that since i've been off for a few weeks- that my joints are sorer (is that a word?) than ever. Still getting over a cold and the whole head hitting fiasco- then i can't WAIT to get back at it! Hope your doctor can provide you some relief!

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

Hey everyone!

I'm glad to see a few people have been able to get on and post.  I too had the old login issues, but it seems like tonight there's no problem.  Congrats to those who accomplished the 5K.  I had to skip a run last week in favor of practicing my presentation.  It went well and now I'm moving on to 1 hour runs.  I've decided not to use the OHR program, but I will be stepping up my running in a similar fashion.  Instead of one long run a week I'm going for a hour run 3x week.  Tomorrow I'm stepping up to 40 minutes.  I've been at 35 minutes for over a week and I think its time!  I hope we can keep this thread going.  Bring out the paddles!  Good to you guys and keep running.

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

Hey Everyone,

I just started my running program. I was wondering if anyone had any good pre-run leg stretching exercises?  I am experiencing some pain they call Compartmental Syndrome. I was wondering what kind of stretching exercises that I could do that would help eliminate the pain.  Thanks for you input.

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

Wow it was great seeing the posts from everyone again, for the most part it sounds like most everyone is still running or at least waiting for an injury to reside before running again.  How awesome! The best advice is to listen to your body and rest and recover when it tells you it needs to.  I am hoping that my journey of C25K will end this week finally, I am on week 9 without skipping a workout (just missed 2 weeks)  and I am ready to move on to OHR.  As the year end is coming up, what are your goals for being active in 2010?  I would like to continue runnign and getting my weekly mileage up as well as pick up the pace a bit, would like to see my mile pace around 9 minutes or so.  I also want to do a few more triathlons this year and perhaps try a longer distance one.  So I am looking to get back in the water and back on the bike.  I biked 13.2 miles on Friday and then ran 2 miles and I was toast but it felt good.  I think some life long goals would be to run a full marathon and perhaps attempt an ironman at some point.  Lots of little baby steps along the way.  Keep on truckin!  Hoping the site will stop having issues so we can all post on a regular basis.

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

coyotecoach20: Do you have a 5K planned before the end of the year?  I am still thinking of doing one more at the beginning of December.  Hopefully it will not be too cold.  Over the last 2 weeks I have been less than diligent in getting in my runs/exercise and have not been eating the best.  But, this weekend I made it to the gym and got on the treadmill and elliptical machine.  Today I plan on getting outside for a run also.  I figure this is where I have to stick to it or begin to loose what I have gained over the last 3 months.  When I checked my e-mail today I was glad to see a post from this site because I do better when I feel accountable to a group of people, even if we have never met.

Good luck to all.  How has everyone been doing these last couple of weeks?  How are the muscles and dreaded cold/flu symptoms? Oh, and bumps on the head?
