Let's hope that this year is more organized then last year as far as passing out the medals to runners who should have received them.

Re: Mission Inn Run 2009 Reviews

I enjoyed the 2009 Half Marathon. The registration area was fast and easy, the mile splits were marked and most were timed. There were plenty of race personnel out on the course. Considering the cost relative to other Half Marathon events, this one was very good.

I have a couple suggestions though: (1) chip timing is always nice; (2) add at least one more water station next year and include sports drink. I wound up carrying my own drink, I would be happy to pay a little more to avoid having to do that.

Re: Mission Inn Run 2009 Reviews

I have run the Mission Inn 5K since 1986, missing only a few years.  I'm getting slower but I still like the experience.  Wonderful organization.  Still, I'd like to see a mile marker for Mile 3.  I know it's close to the 5K finish but I can't get a time split on the third mile without it.  If you can spare a volunteer to call off the times at Mile 3, that'd be great, too.  Are finisher medals too expensive these days?  Nonetheless, it's my favorite 5K each year.  See you next year.

I'd echo everything above and add that there should have been some porta-poties along the course for the 1/2 Marathon. I witnessed several runners contributing to the Santa Ana river.

More water and I wish they would have the 10K start earlier!

Re: Mission Inn Run 2009 Reviews

This was my first time running the Mission Inn. It was fun and I will do it again. suggestions though: more port a potties. and maybe have some tissue paper. It was gone by the first race almost. Also, I was not happy with the nutrition afterwards. I have raced the carlsbad 5k which ends with bananas, oranges, muffins, bars, water, drinks etc. I thought for sure with this being a longer race (10k and 1/2) that there would have been more than just oranges and water. The finish line was also sort of confusing....my nephew and I didn't even really even know it was over...

Re: Mission Inn Run 2009 Reviews

Did the half marathon. While the water, every 2 miles, was properly spaced along the course, the porta potties were pretty much in the park within the first four miles of the race. After mile 4 through mile 11, it was all open trail along the Santa Ana River with nothing but a few water stops. If they just put one porta potty stop out there at about mile 6 on the way out and mile 10 on the way back, that would have worked.

Yes, after a half marathon something more than oranges and water would have been nice. Gatorade or some nice energy drink, along with the other stuff mentioned previously.

There are not really that many halfs in the area as Thanksgiving draws closer. The half was certainly a nice addition to the Mission Inn races.

I ran the half and agree with the above.  I did not see any porta pottys in the course, only bushes.  Would have liked some electrolyte replacement on the course every now and then, especialy after mile 8.  The water stations were placed well and maintained well.  Post race bagels would be nice.  There was a miniature bar in the goodie bag which was welcome.  Running through the park was nice. The timing of this event was great, beginning of November.

Re: Mission Inn Run 2009 Reviews

This was my first Mission Inn run and I did the half. I have raced many other halfs and I don't think I will do this one again. Water in tiny dixie cups...I would have to stop and grap 4-5 to get enough water. No calories on course and the majority of the run on a narrow bike trail. I agree that nothing other than water available at the finish is not enough. With all that said...the entry fee was much less than anyother I've paid so I don't know why I expected so much.  Great volunteers.

Re: Mission Inn Run 2009 Reviews

I have done many 1/2 marathons, 5K and 10K runs all big, fancy and expensive. It was nice to have a $35.00 Run, receive a medal and shirt. The packet pickup process was great, I was worried since I had missed early pick up on the 31st, I decided to arrive early and really there was no need.  Great job, thank you!!   I agree regarding porta potties.  It would  be nice to have a couple up on the trail.  Water stations were perfectly paced out however maybe a sports drink of some type would be nice.   I must add that a marathon is a marathon you run, you need drinks and porta potties.  It would have been nice to have a timing chip ~  HOWEVER  ~   my $100.00 Garmin watch worked just fine. I would hate to see the price go up for bells and whistles.  Great Job and Thank you for all your hard work.  It was a great day and quit organized.

Re: Mission Inn Run 2009 Reviews

Agree with the half-marathon comments on water (no electrolyte availability), potty stops (not enough), and post race refreshments (lack of.)  I expected some of this since it was their 1st time doing a half-marathon but theorized they'd do a bit more with having experience managing 5K and 10K events.  I am a walker and there were no goodie bags left (looking for at least a granola bar) nor any medals.  Had to leave my name and address so they could send me one.  A little disappointing.  I did like the river run but again, due to being a walker, it wasn't that crowded by the time I got there!

Re: Mission Inn Run 2009 Reviews

I have run the Mission Inn run the last 4 years and was very excited to see that they added a 1/2 to the race. Other than the finisher medal, I felt that the 1/2 was not well managed or layed out. No gatoraide or power drinks at any stops including the finish line and also the course lay out could have been better. The narrow bike path was crowded and provided plently of opportunity to cheat, and I did see people cut the course and cheat since their was not mark or check point at the turn around. Also there was no course time other than at mile 1-2 and mile 12. Water tables were already being broken down at mile 8 before all the runners had passed. I will run the 10k next year. I love the Mission Inn and their run but the 1/2 was kinda disapointing.

Re: Mission Inn Run 2009 Reviews

Needed porta potty's on the half route.  I finished early enough for the bags etc., but electrolytes and porta potty's for a 13.1 mile race should be standard.

Re: Mission Inn Run 2009 Reviews

The Mission Inn Run has always been great, but this year the 10K was not up to par.  The main problem is that both halves of the race consisted of the same 3.1K loop.  As a runner I hate to cover the same ground twice.  In the future I hope that the race organizers will restore the old course.
