    Re: 200+ Nov 9th-Nov 15th

I completed W1D2 yesterday and felt so good at the end that I threw in two additional 60 second runs at the end. I also had my last beers for a while last night after being at a beef and beer benefit. No drinking for me until New Years so that alone should help me lose 10 pounds between now and then.

I mentioned earlier that I lost about 80 pounds from about 300 pounds to about 220 between 2005 and 2006. I plan to follow the same plan which is to keep it simple, more exercise and better diet.

The exercise plan revolves around running starting with the C25K and working my way up. Runs are first to build a base then slowly building up to 10 miles. Last time I went up to 12 which caused me problems. If I can get the 10 mile race under my belt, then I will consider training for a half.

The diet plan is to log each last morsel of food and all exercise on nutridiary.com. It is free and tells me how many calories I have left in the day so it takes alot of the guesswork out of planning.

MR and MRS F.. congratulation on the wonderful results (both with the race and making a family!)   What a beautiful family!!   Mrs F looks like a kid herself!  (I'm 53 so to me she is)    You really do have incentive and responsibility to stay healthy for them to the best of your ability.  What a wonderful example you are setting to these little ones.   Work and sacrifice pay off!    Count me among those who couldn't wait to hear how it went.   I am very inspired by your continuing story so please keep sharing.

Congrats to everyone else as well.. you are ALL so inspiring.  My 5 K will be Thanksgiving day.  That also happens to be WK 9 Day 3.

Hey, I haven't posted in this group before, but this looks like where I belong.  I'm 279 pounds at the moment, down from 400 since May.  Have run my first 3 5Ks and am preparing for 3 more before the New Year.  Have been training by running about 15-18 miles per week.  At my weight, it's still hard to really run distance on back to back days... I don't want to hurt myself.  Yesterday I ran 4 miles of fartleks on the treadmill in about 42:30.  Today I did my incline walking workout for 45 minutes, then decided to throw in a mile at the end for a little speedwork.  Was able to do the mile in 8:30, not terrible, but man... I can't believe I used to be able to run under 5:30 in high school... that seems so impossible now.  Anyway, today I'm actually planning on going to a running store in my area to get into my first proper pair of running shoes, so we'll see how that goes.

Thanks everyone! I really had a lot of fun surprising the kids!

My daughter said that next time we tell her we are going shopping, she wont believe us. Thats the ruse we used, why we wouldnt be on the sideliens . But that look on her face as we passed and waved, will forever be logged in my memory -- priceless!!!

Listening to my kids and firiends cheer on my finish was very emotional.

Disneygal -- Thanks -- not quite a kid at 35 but somtimes i act just like one, does that count???

    Re: 200+ Nov 9th-Nov 15th

Wow Mr & Mrs F...I finally got the opportunity to check out your blog and you guys are incredible!  With such a large family, it's very difficult for most parents to break away and do the things that THEY will benefit from.  I was on another website the other day and found this incredible quote that I think rings true to so many families- It is an act of love, to both you and your loved ones, to take care of yourself so that others aren't forced to. I think you guys are doing great!!  I have a hard enough time with two kids making sure to get in the time to take care of me.

So for me...*sigh* Pre-birthday shenanigans involving sushi, a few drinks, five inch heels, and a midnight run through the In-N-Out drive thru....I'm in terrible shape and woke up this morning thinking "wth did I do?"  The few pounds I lost will surely decide that they can't possibly leave me to celebrate my special day alone so I will be working twice as hard this week.  It's kinda strange, since I've made this lifestyle change, every little thing I do I find myself thinking twice.  For instance, wondering if I should have worn different shoes.  You know, wouldn't want to hurt my feet/ankles/neck because then I can't run this week...too bad we were already out when I thought about that.  I told myself while getting ready last night that I was going to let loose- cos it's for my birthday and all- but now I wish I had made a better decision.  Running tonight for sure!!!!!  And the next night, and the next night....

Pain is temporary, PRIDE is forever.

    Hi everyone!

Well the board seems stable this weekend. I was a little frustrated after last week and I didn't post any or much during the week; I can't really remember. I also didn't run so much either. Monday and Saturday and I hope to get out today; it is a cloudy cool day and I am having trouble getting out there since it has been  nice and sunny here lately.

CONGRATULATIONS to Mr. and Mrs. Fat Man Running!! Andrew and Marie from now on out! Your story is amazing! I can't believe 10 kids and you are just 35 Marie! And Andrew in grad school and 10 kids and working. WOW!  I have four kids pretty much grown and I work and am in grad school and also 100 pounds overweight so I feel like I have no excuse now. I loved my 5K but signed up for a 2 miler on Thanksgiving day because the closest 5K was 90 minutes away and the ones close by were 5 miles or 2 miles. I am still pretty slow so I am trying to improve my time and endurance before I go all crazy and try a 5 miler. LOL I need to work on my weight too; I am going to WW but not making too much progress after losing the first 30 pounds. I have been at a standstill the last 6 months or so.   Andrew - what grad program are you in? I am in MBA online class.

Congratulations to everyone else who ran this weekend! a race or just around the block.

    Donna,

Which race did you end up signing up for? I noticed a race day after Thanksgiving in downtown Louisville, but I'll already be heading back to NC that morning.

    THanks!

Swaph.... You have no idea how much the quote "It is an act of love, to both you and your loved ones, to take care of yourself so that others aren't forced to." resonates with me right now, regarding my mom's health.  This nails it on the head.

My knees aren't healing as quickly as I hoped.  I kind of let 'em go in the beginning of the abrasions, and they got infected.  I'll spare the details, but I cleaned them really good after a shower and kind of 'started over' with triple antibiotic and bandages.  2 of them are getting there...one is still giving me trouble.  6 days had passed since I last ran...the longest stretch of not running since I started C25K.

But it didn't stop me from running last night.  I just rolled up my workout tights to keep the fabric from irritating the bandaged wounds and ran the whole 30 minutes without a hitch.  Well, there was a hitch...my shoe untied itself while I was running.  After that I did about 20 minutes of weight training.

I'm pleased to say that I've maintained an under-200 weight for about a month or so, maybe longer actually.  Today I weighed in (on 2 scales) at 190.  I couldn't believe that after 6 days of bad eating and no working out, I didn't gain weight at all.  It definitely plateaued for a bit, but it hasn't been over 193 for a long time.  It's like the 200 mark came and went without fanfare.  I did whoop and holler when I weighed in at 198, but nothing else.

Anyway, I'm going to continue reading posts now.

OH yeah.....I have one more run, and then I'll have graduated C25K.  It will happen by Sunday.  My first 5K race is December 5.

hope everyone had good weekend - I woke up this morning very little knee pain - something I have not had for the past 6 months - Its especially good as I completed 5K yesterday in under 12min/mile - 11:57 I think.  I think three weeks off Karate, and on vacation was what I needed.  Its harder than I thought to shutdown and rest when I don't really think I push it too hard...full range of motion back  (full for me) and just little stiffness this morning.  Rained today so evening walk is out.  Back to the Dojo tomorrow but I think the worst is behind.  even better kept weigh off all summer, and am starting to push the 220 line.  last time on scale was bouncing between 220 and 225.  my scale is poor so I only count 5 Lb chunks....

welcome to the new folks - it can be a long journey but so much worth while in the long run....

    Skoal!
