Joplus --- when the weather goes against you in a marathon, it is a good idea to go into it without preset ideas. In 2004 when Boston went to 85 degrees, I revised my goal the night before and then abandoned any preset goal 3 miles in.....a move that saved me from an ugly experience. Running the best I could accepting the weather as a given I was able to place something like 37th male, something I guarantee woulldn't have happened if I'd had a goal.
My week:
M - 12 miles 1st 10 avging 6:29, then 5:41-5:36.
T - AM, 10 ez 6:55 avg. PM, 3 warmup 6:48 avg then 2X8minON/4minOFF, ON paces only 5:15-5:23, sick. Cooldown for 10 miles total.
W - AM, 12 ez 6:51 avg. PM, 8 ez 6:43 avg with 10X100m accelerations
R - AM, 6 miles ez 7:05 avg. PM, 3 mile warmup 6:45 avg then 8 mile tempo HR 160-161, 5:47 avg. 3 mile, 6:48 pace cooldown for 14 miles.
F - AM, 10 miles ez 6:57 avg. PM, 10 miles ez 6:51 avg
Sa - AM, 12 miles ez 6:53 avg. PM, fever and tired from lingering infection, skipped run.

Su - 20 miles ez 6:42 avg with last 1/4 mile sub-6 pickup.
Total for week: 124 miles
--I was going for an all-time high of 132, but I've been fighting illness for 2 weeks now and I think the volume let it linger and I had a bit of relapse Saturday and elected to skip a planned 8-mile fartlek to save the chances of finishing today's 20-miler.
This week highlighted a big advantage of being a pro runner. My company is on vacation this week; without work, I was able to get the sleep and afternoon naps necessary to put this volume in....and I feel better than I normally would after a 90-mile week sandwiched around work. Without the career my week-to-week could look more like this....
Capped off the year with 4014 miles. Woohoo!
