I still feel like I am so behind on here. I ran 3 miles yesterday about 16.30 so I am doing better. That was a better time than I have been and I made it 3 miiles. It was beautiful outside yesterday and made the run very enjoyable.
Welcome Swaph and Melissa! You will love C25K and this thread.
Pam; hula hoop class; that sounds interesting; let us know how it goes. sounds fun! I will take it slow if I were you; I did and I think it helped with the aches and pains and the ability to keep going. I am slow but I can run 3 miles straight in 50 minutes. I always did the 5 min warmups and cooldowns during the whole C25K program.
Jo Ann wow you are doing great with your races and running. I thought of starting the program you are; I still feel like I am having trouble running 3 miles; sometimes I can do it; I am trying to push myself but I am struggling to know what to do so I just get out there and run 2+ miles and sometimes 3. I know I need a program. I am doing a 2 miler on Thanksgiving (because only 5 milers are available that day around here ) I then have a 4K in December a 5K in January and a 4 miler in February. I am hoping to do all three. Then in Louisville they have the triple crown of running to get ready for the Derby and it is a 5K, then a 10K and then a 10 Miler. Then they have the half and full marathon later. I am not sure what I will do but I think I will do the first three races 4K, 5K, and 4 miler. I already signed up for the 2 miler. Hopefullly I can lose some weight to help me out on these runs. I am going to WW tonight instead of Saturday morning and hope it will jumpstart my weight loss again.
Michael; Way to go being persistant on running!
Kim; your race story is hilarious! You did great! My in-laws live in CAbool, MO (near Springfield) is that near the Ozarks that you are speaking of?
Donna- Regarding a training program- find one that you'd like to start, even if it is beyond you right now. Then review what you currently can do and compare it with the recommended starting point of the new program. Then build your own 2, 3, 4 or 6 wk program that allows you to transition from where you are to where you need to be. For instance, if you do 3 runs 2-2.5 miles, plus a 3 mile run in your typical week, and you need to get to (5) 3 mile runs per week, then make your own plan to get from point A to point B. Maybe an adaptation of Weeks 6-9 from C25K. And, keeping in mind your 4K race in December, consider adding a 3.5 mi run or two into the mix.
Kim- It sounds like your friend and I are running parallel, w same speed and wt. loss needs. While gradually improving, I only go as fast as my body will let me.

Goodie, I can reply. Hi Penguins, I have missed y'all, as I forgot to check in. Can anyone recommend a compact treadmill, preferably that folds? My running has really been curtailed by daylight savings time. I have a 5K on Dec 12.

Cave Spring Road Race, June 2012,planned
Thanks Donna, and the race was held at Silver Dollar City, near Branson, which is just down the road from Springfield, so yes, it's the very same Ozarks. If you happen to visit your in-laws for Thanksgiving, Sprinfield is having a Turkey Trot!

I just wanted to say --- THANK YOU!
After reading MANY postings I realized I was trying to run too fast... no shame in running slow if you finish the workout!
