200lbs+ C25K  Nov. 23-29

Hello one and all--those currently and formerly 200lbs+.  Most in this thread are following (or at least started with) the Couch to 5k Running Program from Coolrunning.com.  There's a set of podcasts that was recorded to let you listed to audible cues to guide you through the program.  If you have an mp3 player, it is easier than carrying a watch or watching a clock.  A lot of people download them to their iPods.  If you need them in actual mp3 format, you'll find a link at the top of the page.

We use these weekly threads to keep up with each other, and to encourage each other.  If you've been following these threads for a while, please chime in.

It was my wife's idea--really! Okay, it helps that I need to lose the weight, too.

Hi Andrew, thanks for starting the new weekly thread!

I just had an idea....I think since I graduated C25K yesterday, for my next run I'm going to just see how long and far I can go.  Seems like my runs are mentally thwarted by the clock.  (Lets say I have 5 minutes left....well by knowing I have 5 minutes left, I feel like I only have 5 minutes left in me.)  If I just cover the darn thing and promise myself not to look at it, I could add 10 minutes without knowing it.  BUT, I will definitely start the One Hour Runner program after that.  The first 10 runs are 30 minutes.  I can handle that.

I am curious I keep seeing the C25k which I grasp is 15.5 miles but I don't understand how you start it and how you finish it. Is there a training program on here for that, that I'm not seeing...

    HELP>..

    Thanks

Loving2run -- C25K stands for couch to 5k . Its a 9 week program designed to take non runners from the couch and transition them slowly up to running a 5k or 3.125 miles. The plan is on cool runnings site here. The program is great, i went from hating running to acutally liking it!

Andrew - Thanks for starting the new thread... always look forward to it on Mondays! So much to say...

Jasmine - I think your goal of a HM in late April is totally realistic... and exciting!!!  I don't think that you are rushing anything, but your training would need to be very serious for the next five months! No slumping like me! lol... And really, what a great place to run... Nashville! I've went to Tenn last year on vacation & I just fell in geographical love!!

    OVENFRIED - CONGRATS!!! Great job!

darunningman - Thanks fo the pics, you look fantastic!

Anthony - Sorry to hear about you funk... and best wishes to your wife. Hang in there...

Okay - I think I'm officially (and I use that term loosely) out of my funk.... I have to get more energy and lose a ton of weight (ok, that term I use not so loosely)... lol.... Why you ask?? Well, first off becuz I've been a human version of a sloth lately... and second.... *BIG SIGH*... I gotta squeeze (fight) my way into a wedding dress soon....

That's right!! He asked yesterday and I said..... What in the hell took you so long!?!? I mean... I said yes!

I found a pace per mile calculator last night and figured out I've been running closer to 18 mm than 17. Yep, that's slow.

Oh my goodness, GoRunIrish!!!! Congratulations! Make sure you pick a honeymoon spot with awesome places to run...you know, for when you're not honeymooning.

I'm glad to see the thread up and running for the week and I'm even more glad that I have something to contribute. After a week of not running (I hadn't run since last Monday) and a serious bout of stress-induced exhaustion and depression, I got my butt out of bed at o'dark-thirty and went for a thirty minute run. I was so worried that with all the factors against me I wouldn't be able to make it but I did. I'm heading to my hometown tomorrow night to spend Thanksgiving with my family (whom I haven't seen since July) and I'm not only excited to see everyone (including my beyond-belief adorable 15-month godson!), but I'm really looking forward to having a week to refocus. I'm purposefully not allowing myself to do any schoolwork while home and since I won't have many obligations over the week, I'm looking forward to really getting back on track and remembering that running three times a week is very very doable.

For everyone else in the evil funk, good luck pushing through. I know nobody besides you can get you out of the funk (and, honestly, I'm not even sure I'm out of mine yet either) but everyone's here to support each other. I did find this morning that a change in mindset really helped...rather than looking at my run this morning as something to finish or to accomplish or to train with (since I've "accomplished" 30 minutes enough now that it's sort of lost that sense of victory), I'm trying to look at it more as a meditative exercise.

I stole a "move" from my friend the yoga-pro and during my warm-up I "set my intention," reminding myself why I was doing this, what I wanted to feel throughout the run, what I wanted to feel at the end of the run, and dedicating that particular run to a specific person or idea. It's a very conscious effort to make the run as impactful and effective as I can and it really changes the whole attitude I carry into the run. My pace and my distance will increase and decrease over time, but my devotion to making myself a better person and my affection for those people and ideas I'm dedicating each run to will never wane.

Happy Monday everyone! I'm not sure how much I'll be able to check in during the week (I'm going to the Great White North and the land of dial-up and AOL 5.0! ), but in case I don't "see" any of you again before next week, have a great Thanksgiving! If you're travelling, be safe. If you're spending the day with family, have fun and be stress-free, if you're just keeping on keeping on with your regular routine I hope you'll be able to take some extra time for yourself!

Irish- OMG!! Congratulations! Yeah, news like that should dispell the funk! Way to go!  How long do you have to fit in a gorgeous dress? OMG!

Ovenfried- Congrats on finishing C25K and soon to be grad: Turtle

Babe- Your progression toward 10mm is great.  I think 1 hour runner is a great program for you to work on.

911- You did a pretty good time for your first HM. I'm thinking of one in Nashville at the end of April. I'm still a penguin now, but I'm thinking if I keep up my training, I can finish mine in <3hrs by then.

Moviechic- There are several 10K training programs out there. Others on the thread can give you links. I'm doing the Cool Running 5K program, to enhance my 5K times.

Potato- What a wonderful thought for focusing on purposeful good intentions.  Something I should keep in mind.55

If some of you C25K grads go off to start new threads for OHR or other programs, please remember to stop back here and keep us up to date with your progress too.  You've become dear to us.

I dropped my Memphis 5K and exchanged it for a local 5K on the same route as my first 5K in August.  I'll be able to save gas & hotel expenses, and mark my progress over 3+ months. I only signed up for Memphis because I couldn't find the local race.

Off to the Gym now for the beginning of week 2 of CR-5K. Doing a 4 mi Fartlek.

    Hi everyone!

Can I join you?  I started my c25k today - well I actually started two weeks ago, then hurt my knee so starting over with w1d1 today. I'm slow, but I did it.

I'm Tracie, 32yr old single mom from the St. Louis, MO area.  I'm 240# but have already lost 50 so I don't plan on staying in the 200's long!

I look forward to getting to know everyone.

I have the big 2-0 run tonight. I've gotten off schedule due to other things, so I'm going to run it 3 times this week (or at least give myself room for 3 attempts) in order to get back onto my T-Th-Sa schedule next week.

Mrs. F - Fun... fun when its all over and all the Irish drunks leave my reception... I like the One HR Runner thread idea... I'll have to be joining that soon..if you know what I mean...geez.

POTATO - Honeymoon spot is a done deal.... IRELAND. Wow, who would of thought... OMG there will be sooooo many hills, darn! Running was obviously part of the equation... DARN!

Jasmine - We would like a spring wedding since its Irish themed (what a shock...) and this coming spring is too darn soon, so next spring. 500+ days may seem like alot, but I've seen plenty of "500 days" in my lifetime... and yet I'm still heavy. Amazing. I need all the days that I can get!! I really lose weight slow, so 500 days sounds about right for me... lol.

Oh for the love of Pete, wish me luck....
