200+lb One Hour Runner runners.. Nov 23-Nov 29

Hello!

This is a brand new thread for folks over or around 200 lbs who are participating in the One Hour Runner training program.  Most of us have recently graduated from Couch-to-5K and have moved on to another program to continue our improving fitness!

Here is a link to the schedule for One Hour Runner training.  It's actually a blog that someone has up, but it's a good one.  If there are other sites about One Hour Runner that you like, post them here!

*******

Personally I just finished C25K yesterday, so today is my off-day before starting it tomorrow.

Welcome!

Just checking in, so I can keep track of your progress.  I was so slow that I had to transition C25K to distance so that I could run complete 5Ks. Good luck to all potential one hour runners!

Amy - thanks for starting the new thread. I started OHR last week. I will do W2w2 tomorrow. It just seems like it takes so long to actually start running more than 30 minutes. I guess it doesn't matter. I've got nothing but time. lol

Thanks for this new thread, Ovenfried! (although I'm afraid I may perhaps get confused between the two! )

I'm on Week 2...still...I've had so many set-backs and missed workouts. Ugh. Hoping to get back on track this week and just keep slogging through the 30 minute runs.

Are you guys planning on doing anything special to time? I was thinking that I had been using C25k podcast cues (with my own music) to time myself since a) the stopwatch on my watch is broken and b) I'm terrible at keeping track of what time I started/what time I should end just in my head. Not sure what I'll do when it comes to non-30 minute runs (I just switched out the music on my Week 9 C25k podcast and have been using that).

Thanks for starting this thread.  I'm hoping it really takes off as people find out about this thread.  I ran my first OHR tonight, and ended up running a little over 2 miles in the 30 minutes, for a little less than 15mm.  Overall, I ran for 35 minutes, and it felt pretty good.  Potato-I was looking in iTunes over the weekend, and I'm thinking about downloading an application called Run Mate, and although I have to read up on it a little more, it looks like you can program your intervals, which would be perfect.  It's especially important because I run at night a lot, and don't have a stopwatch that I can see at night.  Like my C25K application, it plays over your playlist and gives you the cues to change pace.

Ovenfried and BITW-It's pretty cool that we graduated the C25K at the same time; not we can support each other through this program as well.  I don't know about you, but my next run is a Turtle Turkey Trot on Thursday morning.

Good luck to all of us!

I'm finishing the C25K program this week.  running my first 5k Thanksgiving.  I've been running 3 miles for a couple of weeks though.. usually about 35 minutes.. I am going to do one hour runner and/or Hal Higdons Novice 10 K program.  Running a 10 K will be my next goal after running this 5k~

Potato - I use the Nike+ for running. It's kind of cool because I can program my run by time or distance and it gives me cues throughout the run (10 min completed, blah, blah) Fluffy connects hers to the computer and uses additional features but I'm not quite that savy.

Turtle - I think it's pretty cool too that we 3 finished C25K the same week. We all have much in common - C25K, 200+, and OHR. Also, you and I both have a 5k on Thanksgiving. At mine, a 10K begins simultanously. I'm hoping I don't take a wrong turn and end up running the wrong race. Yikes!

Disneygal2 - Good luck on your first 5k.

Where are you guys running your races? Mine is in Detroit, MI. It's about an hour south of me. DH and I will be spending the night and having dinner downtown so we won't have to drive in the morning. We got a "runners discount" on the hotel and purchased tickets to the runners dinner tonight.

Babe... my race is in Dana Hills, CA.  It is southern California by the ocean.  We are having a warm spell so it should be quite nice in the early morning by the water.

I grew up in Michigan... Bloomfield Hills a suburb of Detroit.  I'll be interested to hear how the race goes!

Happy Day before Thanksgiving everyone!   I will be very careful with my food intake today so I don't have a heavy stumach tomorrow morning!

Thank you so much for setting up the thread. This place is great, make a suggestion and it happens!

I'll need to check back to read everyone's posts and I'll have to check out the link to see what I need to do for this training. I'll be starting it on Friday! Stuff myself Thursday and burn it off the next day

    Thanks again for the thread!

    Hey all,

Babe-It sounds cool that you are really making your 5K an event, by staying over and enjoying yourself with dinner and everything.  I agree about the 10K-make sure you know where you're going and that the paths are clearing marked.  Could you imagine; you'd be running and thinking that you should be done, and realize you have another 3 miles to go before you finish-Yikes!  Do you like the Nike +?  I'm thinking about getting one because I already have an ipod Touch that is compatible, and I need something to time and gauge my progress.  I bought my husband the Nike + Sportband for Christmas.

My 5K is actually in the town where I live.  Literally, I could walk to it (the start is 1 mile from my home), but I think I need to conserve energy before the race, since I've yet to actually run the whole thing, so we're driving (lazy!!).  I'm really going to try to run the entire 5K this time, albeit slowly.  There are more than 700 people registered for the event, so it's going to be huge!  There is also a 1.5 mile non-competitive walk and a kids fun run where they all get turkey hats.  It's exciting! I don't know about you guys, but I get so nervous before I run in these races, I'm already feeling like I'm going to throw up.

Disneygal-Being that this is your first 5K, I don't want to make you nervous, but in my experience (and once the nausea subsides) the whole experience is really cool; it feels like you are part of a community, and most of the time, the vibes are fun, so enjoy!

Moviechic-We will see you on Friday when you start the program.

I'll be checking in tomorrow with my time after my 5K.  Hopefully I can beat 46:27 which is my best time so far.  Good luck to everyone on their races and runs.

    -Kelly

Quick question after looking at the link and the running times for training.

I've already been doing some hour long runs in the last few weeks. I'm not speedy and I have NO idea what my distance is, but I'm out there for an hour.

Should I even worry about this One Hour Runner program or should I find whatever the next level would be, maybe a 10K running program?

Thank you very much for your time and answers. I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow!
