    Hi All,

I started C25K program about 4 weeks ago but then got sidelined for two weeks with the flu.  I am starting back this week with Week1 Day1 workout. Over the last year I have walked many 5k's but I am finally taking the plunge to at last run one!

GoRunIrish - Where in Ireland are you guys planning to go? I lived there all of last year doing research for my thesis (in Cork, which is currently several feet underwater due to extreme flooding ) and I have many favorite haunts and only wish I had been a runner when I was there! (Granted, the Irish tend to look at recreational runners as being more than a little bit crazy...not that I can blame them! ) 500+ days will just FLY by! Enjoy the engagement!

POTATO- Wow - living abroad! How exciting that must have been!! I gotta tell ya, at this EARLY stage in the engagement - I don't have a whole lotta answers.. LOL! We are both proud irish folk and we just know that Ireland is it... not even a question. We want to do the touristy things of course, (Yanks!) but we are usually off the beaten path people just as much, too. Never too early for friendly suggestions, though... THANKS!!

I second the motion for a 200+ One Hour Runner thread.

That will be a place for current 1-hour runners to talk now, and those of you in C25K will be able to hop on board when you're done.  There is something very special about being able to talk to other heavies who are running.   We understand each other's challenges, pains and triumphs.

OK fine....I'll go start it now.  Why wait.  I'll edit this post with the link when I'm done.

Welcome to the new C25K runners and re-starters: onehotmamma, naughty_cat and anyone else out there reading this.  You'll find this is a great place for friendly advice and sharing of "the pain".  Just remember, if you start out your program and get side stitches, shin splints and are too tired to finish your workout, you are probably going TOO FAST for your training level.  Slow down a bit, and you may find your are comfortable enough to finish the workout without real pain.  Listen to your body. Speed will come after endurance. I started at 20 min/mi 3 months ago, and now I'm down to ~16mm.

I had been talking about C25K at my gym, and told the gym owner about it. Now she is starting C25K today, with 4 other ladies from the gym.  Plus I got the swim director at my school to start the program too. LOL.

Tried to do speedwork at the gym today, but started feeling it in my shin after a 15mm, so I cut back & took it easy. I'll try again tomorrow.  Since the pool & gym are closed on Thanksgiving, I'm going to do my long run (5 mi) while the turkey is cooking.  Good luck to everyone with a Turkey Trot on Thursday.

Jasmine, you have been a PROGRAM SAVER by condoning the slower paces. I know that I would have just plain stopped if last week's bad experience trying to go 15 mm had kept up.

My earlier thing about me running closer to 18 mm was wrong. I realized I put in the entire workout, whereas I was only running for an intermittent 16 minutes of it. I think the actual runs are just over 16 minutes per mile.

I put Week 5 Day 1 of C25K in the can tonight!

And for all those who are feeling stressed, I will just mention that I've been under some tremendous stress and fear lately with a medical issue in my family. Vigorous exercise is the one thing that has kept me calm and grounded throughout this ordeal. I started learning to run at just the perfect time.

Hey GoRunIrish! I'd gone to Ireland for about 5 weeks several years ago and knew I'd go back for a while for school. Anytime you need recommendations or advice, just let me know! I'm most familiar with the West and Southwest, but I went up to Northern Ireland several times and had some trips in the Dublin area. I'm mostly jealous of your impending jaunt...I'd love to get back soon! Actually, I think my several several several year-away plan is to run the Dublin Marathon (although Dublin's hardly my favorite place!)

    Hi everyone,

I am still around; just been really busy at work and school and stressed with kids (college age).  I have been running at least 3 days a week but all of a sudden I am having trouble running more than 2 miles and I am slower not faster. I am not sure what is happening. Oh well, I am keep on keepin on. It is nice to see the excitement on the board. C25K is the best program ever!!  I do have a 2 miler on Thanksgiving - I couldn't find a 5K but it is supposed to be in the high 30s and a snow/rain mix. Oh my!!

Amen!  I too have been under INSANE stress with an imminent job loss and ill mother. Yesterday was The Day we had to have the talk with her about not moving back into her own home.  So about 3 hours prior, I went to the gym and did the stationary bike for 20 minutes, weights for 15 minutes, and dry sauna for 15 minutes.  Earlier in the day I thought I was going to cry throughout the whole discussion, but I arrived to the nursing home feeling calm and peaceful, and didn't freak out at all during the meeting (which was very good for mom, too.)   Using exercise as a preemptive strike against the effects of emotional stress really worked wonders.

    Great job Andrew!

Jasmine - I was just happy to finish the 1/2 marathon, the time was a bonus. You can do a 1/2 for sure. Find a training plan that works for you and stick to it. Just like C25K, its all in the training, race day is just the icing on the cake.

    I tried W5D3 last night.

It was disastrous...I only made it to 5:36 before my body started screaming at me to stop running. So I stopped running. Ended up redoing W5D1...but I was/am kind of not very happy about it right now.
