may basic plan all along hasn't changed.
I have reached the 5k distance- and I want to continue stretching that distance out to reach 10K
I find that the C25K running 3 days a week agrees with me-and I want to continue that format. I usually run t.,th., sunday-and I lift on three of the off days. I have a physically demanding outdoor occupation-and I am counting that as "crosstraining". I own the small business I work in-and the 3 days a week of running allows me to mesh my running in with my most strenuous work days-planning ahead I have a lot of flexibility---M.,W., sat. or t.,th.,sunday etc.
Basically I have a specific course I wAnt to run on thursday-and then my next running day is sunday.
starting sunday- I am going to simply add 10% to my weekly milage.
starting sunday I will add10% to all three of my weekly workouts
the following week I will add the next 10% to my sunday run-sunday will then become the LONG run..
I will alternate back and forth like that- and before you know it- I will be running 4 plus miles t.,th.-and about 10K on sundays-and then we will see where I take it from there.
I do sort of envy the folks who can go to a 4 day or more per week of running plan-but because of my occupation and age- I don't think my body can handle it. I need that every other day of recuperation AND the 2 consecutive days off each week. If I screw up a knee- I don't have an office to limp into work the next day- I have a 32 FT. ladder to climb, LOL-andkids in private schools depending on my ability to continue climbing those ladders.
RE: weight loss-i WOULD like to lose some weight- and I am working on it-it would certainly make the running easier------ but frankly,-as long as I can physically do the tings that MUST BE DONE- the weight is secondary. It's important- but secondary.
interesting that I start running, partly to lose weight-and now I want to lose weight- because I want to run farther or faster-interesting role reversal.
ALSO- I am not so much interested in running 5k road races-as I am in running trail races-and around here those start at about a 5 mile distance-so it is more important for me to slowly and sanely increase my milage- than it is to increase my 5k speed.
