    Re: Great Quotes

    Hello Kat

Yes, it's me, Edski.  I owe you folks an apology - I disappeared.  I'm really sorry peeps, really I am.  Please forgive me.  I'll tell you more as and when, but the last few years haven't been exactly easy.  Miserable in fact, recessions hit people who are self-employed damned hard.  Work and £££ issues... and I quit running for a while so as to try to sort things out.  Started drinking way too much instead... It didn't work

But yes I'm back.  Time to get a firm grip and re-evaluate a few priorities.  I couldn't remember my old password and I've changed email addy since, so I thought best start a new account.  Why 675?  I ride a Triumph Daytona 675 motorcycle

And I have a new goal  I have hardly run this year.  I was looking at my medals Friday as we're hoping to move house soon - we have at last found a buyer and they want to be in before Christmas - so I was doing some sorting out.  And I came across my beautiful 2007 medal, it brings back such happy memories for me, in the days when life was normal and not full of stress.  I remember that hill up to Iwo Jima  And I remember how I left the United States with such a heavy heart, because I sort of knew what was waiting.  It's the best medal I have, far better than the London or the NYC ones - and after I'd done the emotional piece of what a waste the last 2 years have been, I decided that I want another!!!!

I'm going to run MCM on October 31, 2010.

If they'll have me that is

So, I laced 'em up there and then and headed out the door for the first time since - oh April I guess.  I did about 2.5 miles.  Terrible isn't it, but you lose fitness very quick, and I didn't want to push it, I don't want to get hurt before I've even started.  Did it again Saturday and again just now.

I simply can't wait to get going properly, I want to feel my heart pounding, my lungs fit to burst, and my legs like lead.  Oh I've missed running, secretly more than I could ever have thought.  I always drive or ride home from work and see any number of runners out and about, and I feel guilty that I'm not out there with them.  It never leaves you, y'know?  I'm only sorry that I ever stopped.  And I'm really sorry that I let you all down.  Sorry guys. I mean that. So tonight, with the howling wind and pouring rain, I was as happy as Larry

It is good to hear from you, sorry to hear of your misfortunes, but good to hear you're running again/still.  You picked a good year to come back, being the 35th running and the medal for next year is extra special.

Edski, it's great to hear from you, even if the news wasn't all great.  But having made the decision to run another 26.2 is the best one, I'm so glad to hear it.  I was so sorry to hear about your misfortunes, sometimes life deals us a shi!!y hand, but yourself up is winning over that shi!!y hand, and you have done that.  Congrats.

Keep us updated on your running progress.  Good luck and take care.

    Re: Great Quotes

Edski, I haven't been on here lately but Len pointed out that you were back.  WELCOME!  If you remember we crossed mile 10 together in 2007 (I still have that picture!)  I hope in 2010, we'll cross at least the start line together.

Life is more than running and sometimes it gets in the way of our running but true passions never die.  They just take little breaks.

We'll see you in 2010, Ed!

    Re: Great Quotes

Welcome back, Ed! Sorry to hear about the tough times, but friends stick around when you need them and you can see we're happy to have you back (Jerry hasn't been here in MONTHS). I think like you and Jimmy, a lot has happened for everyone in two years (I went to Antarctica and started running ultras). Kind of funny how much can change in a short period of time. A lot of people left the board in favor of Facebook but we have some super awesome "new kids." So nice to have a friendly face back and I think it's great news that you're shooting for MCM 2010! Like you said, build up your training slowly- you have plenty of time so all you need is the patience and dedication.
