Congratulations, Mike!  That weight loss is really great, and your times are also great.  It definitely helps to have friends to run with to support you.  If you're by yourself, there's only you to keep you from walking - when you're with others, you don't want to be the chump walking

Check back in, and let us know how the 5k goes.  I've got one on Saturday, hoping for under 30 minutes, but that will REALLY be pushing it.

My wife just did W1D2, and it's kind of funny to watch her struggling as much as I did, and knowing I can actually run for 30 minutes now, while she's working her butt off for 60 seconds of it.  It's really incredible what a difference 27 training runs can do.

Last night, we completed W9D3 (after a few days off from the Turkey Trot). It was a cold run, but we were prepared for it. I liked wearing a fleece vest because when I started to become warmer, I unzipped it and felt better.

My shin didn't bother me at all, so that was a huge improvement from the past few weeks -- the days off must have really helped.

Where do we go from here?

We have the Colder Boulder this Saturday, which is a 5K, the Jingle Bell Run on the 13, and then the Resolution 5K run on the 31. We're excited about the Resolution run because it's at night -- which is our forte.

We start training for a 10K next week. We're using the HH method; I printed out the 8 Week schedule, and it looks reasonable. I like having a system, and I like losing the weight!

On May 31 is the Bolder Boulder, which is a 10K. We should definitely be prepared for that.

Did anyone watch the Biggest Loser last night? They ran a marathon! That's my goal before I'm thirty. Less than three years to go...

Great job everyone. I am up to 31 minutes of running, just not 3 miles yet. Tomm I plan to reach 2.5 and then next week the three miles. Still a mind war in my head but I just keep pushing. My goal is to achieve the 3 miles and then continue with it till the new year. I might start the 10k. I figure if I push myself farther I might get better speed!

I did watch the biggest losers last night, wow what an accomplishment they reached.

Today is an off day, which I need since my legs get so tired.

    Goodluck and take care!

Welcome, Mike.  So glad you posted.  You have a great time, and congratulations on your weight loss that is awesome.  Please keep posting.

Pearson - It is a great reminder of how far we have come when I read about your wife starting out.  That is so true.  It helps me not get down on what I can't do and focus on what I can do.  Incredible!

Drinkup - That is awesome that you are running 31 minutes.  I am in the same boat as you as far as mileage is concerned.  I am just taking it slowly or I will once my hip feels better.

Libby - Congratulations!!! Happy Graduation!  I am so glad to read about how you did.  I missed seeing your posts since your run.  Good luck on the upcoming runs.

Actually, I lied. We're not training for the 10K, we're training for the 8K first. We're moving fairly slowly in our runs, so starting out with 2miles per run seems more fitting for us. Whoops!

But then in January, we start training for the 10K. I hope y'all are still going! I felt discouraged for a few days, but I'm feeling better today after a good run last night.

    Graduation Run!

I just got home from my graduation run! 30 minutes and around 2.4 miles.  It feels like I've turned a corner in the last couple of runs. I haven't been struggling with my breathing like I have for the past three weeks and though there were some muscles that felt achy, there wasn't anything that made me want to stop.

Tonight I fly out to the East Coast for my sister's wedding, then my real vacation in Mexico for a week. Bringing my running stuff to Mexico, and if all works out, it looks like my partner and I will start the One Hour Runner program. Go Team Stubborn!

Well I did it. My normal running days are M W F but due to circumstances beyond my control I had to run Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. I ran 3.1 miles yersterday and my legs were killing me afterwards. There was a bootcamp class there who cheered me on so that helped. They said I could join them after the run but after 3.1 miles I decided just to head home.

My next goal is the Peachtree Road Race here in Atlanta which is a 10k. I really love the C25K program and will be helping others with it soon. All my friends want to do it now.

I started on 10/5/2009 and graduated on 12/3/2009.

    Giggity.

    Thanks!

Congratulations Mike on finishing C25K!!  How tough to do all of your final week in only three days!  I run 5 d/wk, so I often have 3 days in a row, but the last day is always the toughest.  So did you do 3.1 mile in 30 minutes or did it take longer?  Are you planning to do something like One Hour Runner to build your distance?  I see that the Peachtree 10K is a HUGE race on July 4th in Atlanta.  I'd come over from Decatur AL, but the 55,000 people is just a little bit too big for me.

I believe I did it in just under 38 minutes. My running buddies and I decided to do distance rather than time for the whole program. So for this week I ran 3 miles each day instead of running for 30 minutes. I'm averaging 37 to 39 minutes for the 3 mile run. I think going forward my base run will be 3 miles and each week I'll add a lap onto the end. The Peachtree Road Race is huge but its always been a dream of mine to run it. As of this morning I tipped the scales at 291. I was close to 400 pounds at the beginning of the year. Running is an amazing workout.

    Thanks for the feedback!

    Wk 8 D1

I completed Wk 8 D1 the other day. For the last 2 weeks, I have had a lot of pain in one knee. I completed W7  a few weeks ago. My knee has worsened since the Thanksgiving Day 5K..which I ran for over a mile..walked most of the 2nd and more..and finished the race by runnng. I gave the knee a week rest and tried to run the other day. I did it (Wk 8 D1) but have been in pain ever since. I do think it is better than it was. When I put any weight on it, it hurts..and stairs take me forever.

I hope that I will be able to continue. Running is such a fabulous challenge.

Again, thank you for the wonderful support. It is fun to watch everyone's progress.

Aprillilly,  Great to hear a report from you.  So sorry to hear about your knee.   Perhaps you can stick to walking more till it feels better.  Not good to try and increase when it is hurting.   Be sure and keep your pace slow to reduce the impact.  This shall heal and you'll be able to continue.  Remember how important it is to listen to your body and go at its pace.  Your doing awesome!

I just finished a 4 mile run for the first time.  My 10 k training workout for this week was 3, 3, and 4 miles.   I am happy to report that I was able to complete the 4rth mile right on pace and not slow down.  I hope to be running a 10 k in about 8 weeks with my son.

Mike... I have started a thread titled,  "finished C25k training doing  Hal Higdons Novice 10K"  and would love to have people from here join if they want to go on to 10k.  You don't have to use that program to join the thread...  I was going to use it but found it wasn't the best for me.   I've been running 3 miles 3 times a week for several weeks now.  Hal Higdon's novice 10K starts with running 2 to 2 1/2 miles the first couple weeks.  I found a program that I think will work well for me.  It is called "Spark yourself to a 10K"   You can find it by googling that.  I started on week 3.  This week I ran 3, 3, and 4.   Running 3 times a week is about all I can manage.  I also play tennis leagues and am in a hiking club so do those for cross training.  Than there is that necessary "work" that I need to do several days a week,  LOL!  Anyway I think no matter which program you chose you end up tweaking it a bit to fit your needs and schedule.

Anyone wanting to lose weight I recommend sparkpeople.com      It is a free weight loss community with all kinds of support teams and weight loss info.   I still have about 40 lbs I need to lose.

    keep the spark!
