Re: Who starts "official" training soon?

So today was day one of my training.  Actually, it's pretty much day 1 of me running period.  The plan is to run the MCMR2R in March and then the Historic Half in May.  All of this to get me ready for my first MCM in the fall.

A goal without a plan is just a wish

First I have to figure out what I'm training for.  Chances are it will be a half-marathon in March, but if things go well it might be a marathon instead.  Meanwhile I will keep up a certain level of running fitness: a good base,  some speedwork, and a weekly long run of 10 - 14 miles.

Yes, thanks.  Just double-checking with my other half.

My proposed race schedule looks something like this.

    5-miler mid-Feb. (Frostbite 5)

Half-marathon mid-March (Caesar Rodney or Shamrock)

5-miler mid-April (Valley Forge Revolutionary Run)

    Pittsburgh Marathon early May (???)

    MCHH mid-May (???)

    Vermont Relay end of May

    20in24 / Midnight Madness mid-July

Miscellaneous and sundry local races thrown in here and there

??? means would like to but I'm not sure

Speedwork.  Aaarrrggghhhh  It's like taking yuk medicine, I hate it but I know it's good for me and that it works.  I just wish I had someone else to do it with - I simply can't commit to a club at 7pm every Monday and Wednesday.

I haven't got as far as a detailed program - so far its the Liverpool Half on 28/3 (here in England we put the date first, not the month), and then MCM.  I guess I'll find another half in late summer, D/K about another marathon yet.

I'm using Four Months to a Four Hour Marathon that I got on my Sony Reader.  I don't have any designs on a four hour marathon...yet, but I went to the back of the book for the 4:45 to 5:00 goals.  I enjoy the intro to speed work and the long run patterns seem pretty good with the shorter base runs during the week along with weight lifting and situps on cross training days.  I'm hoping to break 5:00 for the Georgia Marathon in March.

Re: Who starts "official" training soon?

I am actually tapering down to the Phoenix RnR Marathon on Jan 17th.  My goal is that elusive sub 4 time.  Missed it by 4 minutes and change in Las Vegas a little over 3 weeks ago.  The Phoenix course is somewhat more benign between miles 8 and 20 compared to Vegas, so this could be my opportunity. If all goes well after that, I my big goal for 2010 is running a half marathon in 1:45:xx.  My current PR is 1:48:51.  The race I will be targeting for that attempt will likely be the Runners Den / Fiesta Bowl Half Marathon in December 2010.  It's the same course I ran my PR on last year here in Phoenix. After a couple of shorter races (a 5 miler and a10K) in February and March, I plan to shift back to doing a little bit more weight training and roll into a 15 mile per week maintenance running program. I may do a couple 5k races in the summer to stay in touch with running short distances in the heat at a pretty good intensity.  Talk to you soon.

I suppose I start fairly soon.  Signed up for the Madison Marathon over Memorial Day weekend with Isaac - he's supposed to let me know when training officially begins

    Hi Guys

I would advise to start training asap even if its some small distance to build up speed and style. If you can also hit the gym when the weather is too bad to run then you will find that this will benefit you during your early training.

    Good luck to all!

Re: Who starts "official" training soon?

I seem to be always in training mode and racing most weekends.  Starting with a New Year's Day 5k, I have three halfs and two marathons scheduled along with various races from 5K to 30K to keep me busy most weekends.

    Happy running all!

Re: Who starts "official" training soon?

Day to start my official training: 01/01/2010

I do not even remember the last time I run...Somehow I stopped training without even realising it. and of course there is always the excuse of having to go to the office and work, work, work. Sometimes I really wonder why I did choose to become a lawyer in the first place.

Gained about 15 kg since MCM 2008 and did not do much sport at all since then. Now I am looking forward to go "running" again, even though it migh be mor "walking"

      Goal:

June           Half marathon in Stuttgart, Germany.

    October      MCM 2010
