Boston Wave Start Question

Can someone tell me how they separate the two waves of the race? Approximately what qualifying time is where they split the two waves? I qualified with a 3:36, so I'll probably be in the slower group, but I was just curious. I did just read that wave 1 starts and 10 am and wave 2 starts at 10:30 am, and there will be two "athlete's villages." Thanks for any information!

You pretty much got it right, the split last year was between 3:30 and 3:31. around the time the first wave starts they start marching the people in the wave two village to the same 10 corals. It worked pretty well last year.

Gotta Run,

Thanks for being brave and asking about the jacket. I was wondering the same thing.

Thanks, divechief! OK, I a little embarrassed to even ask this question, but... It's about the Boston Jacket. Someone help me out if you can. I'm a little excited about the jacket... Doesn't addidas and the BAA make a jacket? Which one is better? I got one in 2003 from the BAA, but I saw many people with an addidas one, too. Can someone chime in on the jacket situation? An opinion, perhaps?

<HR>

I got a jacket last year at my first Boston. I guess I got the BAA one. It is mostly silver with some dark blue. Not only is it a sharp looking jacket but it is a good weight for wearing on cooler or wet days. I do not run in it but I suppose one could. I got the addidas pants but not the jacket. (A friend found the pants at an addidas outlet store a few months AFTER the marathon).
If you already have a BAA jacket you might want to go with the addidas this time. But for first timers I would recommend the BAA jacket, it's something you can wear with pride for a long time.

The "official" marathon jacket is more of a wind breaker and the color scheme changes every year, while the Adidas one is in MHO much nicer and is designed to run in. They were $90 & $80 respectively last year.

I think I might just have to get them both. IMGhttp://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif[/IMG]

You may have to wait until the Expo so you can try them both on and see which one you like better.

Re: Boston Wave Start Question
II'm curious how they'll manage two athletes' villages. I ran Boston in '96 and admittedly the ranks totally swelled that year, but Hopkinton is a pretty small town whose population likely doubled or more when the crowds came in for the marathon. How do they keep the two villages separate?

Edited to add that the one thing I wish I'd done was buy a jacket. Money was short and I owed IRS that year, but in retrospect, I was sorry I didn't get a jacket. This is why I have to qualify again! That should be the carrot that I hold in front of me when I do my long runs for Philly: "Get that jacket... get that jacket....get that jacket!"

The two villages worked fine last year. There is a fence between them. It's not easy to travel between villages. They set them up as mirrors of eachother.

Wave 1 & 2 split has not be determined yet. Should be out soon. But I am guessing your 3:36 will be Wave 2. Regarding the Athletes' Village, the set up for space will be the same. The difference in 2007 will be that runners with a number can go between each of the 2 areas. Access will be the same (South end of the fields near the HS. & along the fire road (North End) Note that you will be allowed to board any bus in Boston to be dropped off in Hopkinton. You could be dropped at 1 of locations (in front of the HS or in the lower field) The goal from what I have heard is to load more buses in a faster time frame to allow for a shorter wait in Hopkinton. I also heard that the baggage buses will be in the same spots as last year Wave 1 in front of the High school & Wave 2 in the middle school parking lot near the big water tower. I noticed last year that the bathroom lines were shorter in the lower fields!! At some times no lines at all. Good luck......

Re: Boston Wave Start Question
I already ordered the adidas one. Last year I bought the adidas fleece one. I love it. The logo is embroidered and reads Boston Athletic Association and 110 marathon 2006. It has nothing of unofficial.
This year I already ordered the adidas wind jacket because it much nicer than the Boston Association one. It's also made of the Clima Warm system. Colors were better last year though. The wind jacket is black with orange details... Whatever... braggin rights are bragging rights...
If I can I'll order another fleece one. It's really good for cool days.

Re: Boston Wave Start Question
Okay, I'll set the record straight. Just got my wind jacket. It is not embroidered like the fleece one I got last year. It fits me perfectly but it's not clima warm as it is advertised. It is clima proof. I got a little upset over that since I need good winter apparel.

Re: Boston Wave Start Question
Gotta run,

Official numbers are posted on the BAA website. Just search by name and your official number will pop-up. My educated guess is if your number is greater than 10,000, you will be in the 2nd wave.
