Bottom of feet are numb

This is from a total road bike newbe, help! I bought a new carbon road bike 2 weeks ago. I have always rode a mountain bike with bales holding my feet in. I now am clipped in using cleats and a good road shoe. I rode 5 times, about 20 miles each with no problems, and no numbness. Bike fits good. I took off and did a 15 miler - sprinted and did some nasty stand up climbing during the peddle. The day after the ride both my feet were numb on the soles, and have been for about 3 days now. Is this from blasting my feet with total pressure on the sprints and climbs, using no real insoles, not being smart enough to let my feet get used to the pressure put on my little tooties (sprinting around like a wild man) by a totally ridged cleated shoe? How can I improve my situation. Thanks, floating on a sea of uncertainity and dying to get back out there.

Check the position of your cleats. They should be right under the ball of your foot. I would also recommend going to the doctor if they have been numb for three days. You might have damaged a nerve.

Re: Bottom of feet are numb
The other thing you might check is how tight your new shoes are. I sometimes need to loosen my shoes about half-way through my ride due to normal foot swelling. The recommendation regarding cleat placement is also good advice. In doubt? have a good bike shop help you. A good set-up person is the best friend you can have. (no, I don't own a shop) Good luck
