I "slogged" my first 5k today and I lOVED IT. It was a fun run\prediciton race. I predicted i would finish in 58:30 and i finished in 45..I couldnt believe it!! I actually didn't think i ran any faster than i do at home. I think just being around everyone helped. There was 10,000 people. I truly feel that im hooked and have signed up for another one may 1, unless i find one closer. I feel like i've had such a sense of accomplishment today. Go me:)
Hey Congratulations for ur GR8 achievement. You must be very proud. I hope i'll perform as well as u on my first 5k. Keep it up!
Way to go! It sounds like you had the right attitude of looking at your first race as an experience to be enjoyed, not something stressful. If you've been running on a treadmill you probably discovered, like most do, that you can run faster outdoors. And you're right, the atmosphere provides a lot of motivation and energy too.
Enjoy your next one! It is habit-forming. ![]()
Good for you FLB! I cant wait until i'm done with my C25K training so I can do my first race!
Congratulations to you. That is awesome. I am just starting out and I want to be able to finish a 5K so badly.
I think we might have done the same race.... the Komen at Coconut Point?
There is a 5K on April 10th in Bonita. If I am right and this is in your area, the website is http://rotaryclubofbonitasprings.wordpress.com/rotary-5-k-run/
Maybe I will see you there!

Fantastic job! Sounds like you've got the bug. Next thing you know we'll be reading about your first marathon.

Great Job!! Can't wait to hear how you do on your second race! The excitement of racing always surprises me with energy I didn't know I had! Way to go!!
My hubby (age 59) and I (age 50) just did our first 5K yesterday! We are on a program similar to the C25K and have been on week 5, jogging 8 min; walking 2 (X3). Yesterday we were able to jog our first mile (13:39) before taking a 2 min. walk break. We finished the 5K in 40:23. My hubby's two daughters did it too; they finished 1 minute ahead of us. We all had a great time and felt a tremendous sense of accomplishment. My hubby and I are doing our second 5K in 4 weeks; we hope to shave 10 minutes off of our time...is that too lofty of a goal? My aunt wants us to do a 10K with her in August. It's good to have goals to keep us motivated!
Give Him the glory!

Congrats Nancel! You are doing awesome. 10 minutes would be a lot to shave off in four weeks, but if you're able to do 10 minute miles in your training runs you'll be able to do it. Just don't do too much too fast. An injury will set you back even more. Good luck with you're training. We'll be watching for a race report on your first 10K too!

Congratulations! I did my first 5K two weeks ago and am looking forward to my next one. Does this mean we have the "bug.?"
Congrats on your race! I am turning 40 this summer and have always wanted to do our towns big 10K race....I've even paid the entry fee a few years ago and didn't do it...so this is my year! I dusted off my treadmill and started my 1st day of training today. I think I may sign up for a 5k in between now and the 10K just to get my feet wet. I've got a long way to go but like you...I think it'll be such a feeling of accomplishment.
My wife and I finished our first 5K this past Sat. I finished in 29:40, and she was 42:14. Both times were best's for us and we were very excited! Congrats on your completion, and enjoy the bug that's just bitten you.

Thanks EVeryone. I never expected to enjoy the race that much. I'm signing up for a may1 and 8 this week. Both 5ks. Figure i will do quite a few of those before trying a 10k. Sharyn..I live in Northwest Florida, closer to Alabama. I think Bonita springs is further down south. The race i did was the Mcquires 5k..
