    Re: Best Pre Race Meal?

Dinner the night before a 5K is largely common sense. I can eat almost anything reasonable the night before a 5K or 10K. Even things like BBQ chicken, pizza and burritos work fine for me as long as they're not overly salty/spicy or high in fat - so for example, plain cheese or vegetable pizza, or a street style burrito (grilled chicken and rice, no sour cream or guacamole) - you get the idea. Also I'll make sure I've eaten it, or something very similar, previously.

As for race morning, I don't eat the morning of a 5K except for a little water and/or black coffee. I prefer to run "lean and mean" - and it makes me feel faster.

Oatmeal (which I hate) with a touch of brown sugar, adding in a bit of extra granola and raisins.

The night before the race I like to eat whole wheat pasta.  I don't eat white bread or white carbs as much as possible.  Whole wheat pasta will give you so much fuel.

I like to eat a banana and Think Thin protein bar before running.  It works every time for me

I agree with the wheat pasta.  I also like to eat broccoli with the pasta.  I think it's more of a mental thing with the broccoli, as it doesn't add energy, but of course is healthy.

The morning of a race I go with a powerbar and vitamin water energy drinks.  I also eat a banana.  Has anyone tried S!Caps to avoid cramping?  They are good to take an hour before a long fun/race and every hour when running.
