i am going to be racing the little smokies half ironman in portsmith ohio this coming may. it will be my first traithlon, and i am looking for a little trianing info/help. i come from an endurance sport background, through highschool and this past year and a half at shcool i have been a competive rower, but my training for the national team has left my back a little messed up and me bured out, so i moved to this.
i have been doing longer training on the bike for a few months now, and feel comfertable with that. the running i am getting back into, and i am comfertable swimming 500m repeats right now( i have only been swimming for about 3 weeks, which is the only swimming i have really done since i was about 8).
i am looking for a little more information about what i need to do to put together a training schedule for the upcoming months to be an agr group contender(20-24). any help would be great, and i am working on a very limeted budget as a college student(have the equipment, but cant afford a couch),
thanks
Focus on going long. That's the most important skill to focus on if you're doing a half for your first tri. Bravo, by the way. As your endurance improves you can add some tempo and speedwork, but don't sacrifice endurance for speed. Also, incorporate some bike-run workouts (bricks). For your first year keep the overall intensity of your bricks low and do no more than 1/week.
